About $10 million per slot. No encumbrance disadvantage. I use my frieghter mostly for storage though. You can build up your freighter too. For me, the game is just exploration and following quests but people are doing all kinds of different stuff. If you choose to build a base it can be glass, wood, concrete or what I assume to be metal. If you go to the Anomaly, you can teleport to other people's bases that Hello Games wants to "showcase". I got a nice Exotic S class fighter from a tip I heard on Reddit. Go to a wealthy system. Vykeen system will be mostly fighters, Gek haulers and Korvax shuttles. I was looking for a fighter so I hung around a Vykeen space station. Trade outposts work too but I found space stations better. When you see what you like, buy it. The only drawback is the starship only has 20 slots.
