I mean, Id argue that enough people are aware of the stories about Nike sweatshops and Apples child labor throughout Southeast Asia such that it could be considered in broad daylight even if Apple/Nike spokespeople arent actively generating quotes about it.

We all justify unethical behaviors in capitalism by sweeping them under the rug. It just feels disenguous and self-congratulatory to quit consuming something you barely cared about in the first place due to some sort of moral outrage, especially when the NBA itself isnt endorsing the actions of the Chinese government.

We all have to reckon with the consumption of media and products from thousands of unethical practices and companies every day and this just feels like such an arbitrary line to draw unless you are a prominent HK protest activist.

i mean, extha is a trump supporter who doesn't give a flying fuck about the deeply unethical aspects of capitalism. you can say his morals suck (which they do) but he's not hypocritical in this sense.

Why have you been interacting with them so long, though? Like if they don't like you are you really getting a lot out of the interactions? It's strange to me.

i think i potentially get something out of them, yeah. xiii is cool has explicitly stated that he dislikes me and i'm not exactly a fan of him either. but not too long ago we had a short conversation about the quality of spider-man movies (we both agreed that spider-man 2 is the best one, he added that that was a different time for superhero movies). not a super deep exchange but enjoyable nonetheless.

not saying i always get something out of those interactions. i'm sure a lot of them are pointless arguments that i get into because of my argumentative nature but... i have those with people who do like me too >_> but at the end of the day, i think i would make the board rather boring for myself if i would solely interact with people who like me. especially with the board being extremely dead these days.

also, when i get attacked/insulted by people who dislike me, i almost always respond. what i "get out of" that is that i don't feel like a doormat.

like i said, i have known (and have interacted with) some of my detractors on this board for years and years, though. so that kinda makes them somewhat significant in my life by default.

not as significant as my real life friends, no, but ahead of "random drunk guy on the street who yelled at me who i've never met before and will never meet again."

If the reasons are invalid, shrugging off their hate becomes a lot easier.

how does this make sense? if anything, this makes me MORE hateful towards them. at least if i don't know the reasons for their hatred, i will leave open the possibility that these reasons are somewhat legitimate. i'm always willing to listen to criticism/feedback. but if it turns out they hate me for invalid bullshit reasons that make no sense, i just become angry at them.

i do agree that it matters who the hatred is coming from. if troll123 goes "HEY LASA YOU SUCK BECAUSE YOU SMELL LIKE POOP" i can shrug off his hatred easily, yeah. if it's people i've known as long as (or longer than) some of my real life best friends, shrugging off the hate isn't all that easy for me to do, though.

I don't hate anyone either, IGCD. I get amused when people act like they are so offended and can't stand people, because at the end of the day we are all people with similar interests that hang in the same areas by choice and are a community. That's why people who use ignore and the block feature seriously perplex me. If you don't like the people here, why are you here? Or, if you can't like the people like you that you choose to go to the same places as, why are you that way? I don't get it. I might have tough love with some people like my former BFF Scarletspeed7, for example, but I would do relatively anything personally for anyone here that needed my help genuinely. Maybe that makes me naive, but I just consider it being a normal person who cares about those I choose to spend time with.

Then again, I haven't hated people as a person since I was in my early 20s maybe. Grudges don't make sense. Life can end in a moment. Why spend it hating? Why I went from a guy who was always up for a fight to someone who teaches my kid to never fight and always avoid it at all costs. I grew up at some point. Kudos to me.

this post would make sense if this were a group of five people or something but there's tons of people posting here. if you hate the majority of them, you're right in that it wouldn't make sense to post here but that's not what it's like for me. it's more like i'm fine with most of the people here and i don't get along with some of them but i take this for granted.

also, you act like hating people is a choice. when there's people who have spent literal years acting like complete and total assholes to me (and i won't name names but they do exist), i find it hard to not feel hatred for these people. maybe you haven't had similar experiences posting here - maybe you have - but i can't adapt your approach.

i agree that it's not fun to hate people and i'd rather not but to me it's just a part of life. life isn't always fun.

responding to raetsel's post about pumped up kicks, i honestly shouldn't have jumped to the conclusion that you disliked it because of the "people like it for the wrong reasons" reason, as you did explain in the writeup that you don't like how it's an earworm. the "it's way too overplayed" argument i also totally get - i would probably like taylor swift's shake it off a lot more if i hadn't heard it five million times (though i would never love it), for example. thanks for clarifying!

i'm sorry you thought this was a horrible conversation, btw. i get that the subject matter of this song isn't the most pleasant thing to discuss but i really was curious about your feelings on the song so... yeah.

but you did point it out as a flaw in the song, right?

you didn't give the song a 10 so obviously you don't think it's perfect, and you said "some people may love the song because they enjoy imagining themselves as the shooter," which... doesn't seem like one of the reasons you liked the song. like, if you didn't mean to say it's a flaw i'm totally confused why you said that.

If you want a song I actively disliked due to subject matter, you need only look back to Teacher, Teacher from the start of the topic. It's certainly not glorifying religious schools and beating students, but there are days where I just do not want to deal with the memories or subject matter.

yeah, but in the teacher, teacher writeup you just said "this subject matter is way too unpleasant for me to enjoy the song." that's totally fair. you didn't say "a flaw of the song is that some religious fanatics may like it for talking about religious teachers beating students."

i don't really care what score you gave pumped up kicks or to what degree you liked the song (i don't love it myself, though i do think it's pretty good) but the "it loses points because some people may like it for the wrong reasons" argument just bugged me a bit for some reason.
