If they had just come right out and said "We won't be supporting every specie in every game anymore because we want a tighter grip on competitions/we regret some older designs/we made too many/etc..." instead of "We tried our best and couldn't support all Pokemon in the game because we had to work real hard on curry recipes", then this might not have been such a debacle. There'd still be people pissed, but it would come down to just "That's a stupid decision" instead of all this investigative hacking/journalism to figure out what their problem was. --- |

Most of the positives of a soft reboot without throwing out the National Dex; an actual attempt at writing a good story; excellent soundtrack on par with RSE. These. The game genuinely had a good story, something that no other Pokemon game has come close to. Not just the plot but even the storytelling itself. Despite being Sprite-based still, they found ways to MAKE it feel dynamic and lively. Hell, the way the game ends was WAY different and really cool compared to most Pokemon games. World felt fresh and new for the first time ever, mostly due to the fact it was the first or set outside of Japan, but also cuz of how they locked away every single older Pokemon and forced you to use new ones. (BUT unlike SwSh, lets you have them post-game) Like Pug said, it actually felt like a brand new direction/soft reboot for Pokemon for the first and only time IMO. The game as a whole felt polished and like GF put a lot of effort into it compared to most other Pokemon games. --- |

BW definitely had the best story hands down, but BW2 had the overall most amount of sheer content and stuff to actually do in the game. Plus Gen 5's fly animated sprites were fucking gorgeous. HGSS were just GSC but remade, with new content, and all the modern QOL stuff we have now. --- |

Oh yeah, I think it might be a decimal then, like .1 (I'm not at my computer right now so I can't say for sure) Basically I wanted the base power of a skill to be the most important part, and the defense/attack to just be a modifier in and of itself, by becoming a decimal. It might seem iffy in that example, but I have it balanced in-game since I'm going for a lower-end damage/HP scale compared to most RPGs. Not as low as Paper Mario, maybe closer to SMRPG. There's too many RPGs where you're level 20 and your attacks are doing like 700 damage against bosses with like 12,000 HP just s few hours into the game. --- |

In my indie game, I think the formula I'm using for skills/magic is the ((attackers strength / targets defense)+1) x (Skill Power) x (Modifiers like power ups) So like if your strength is 50 and the enemy's defense is 40, and the skill you're using has a base power of 50, it would do 62 damage. (Regular standard attacks I base on your characters level since a standard attack doesn't really need a base power.) --- |
