I got the Slugger Secret for my Hunting Horn, and it actually is pretty nuts. I think the Echo Notes have a boost to stun power, because using them pretty much guarantees knock outs.

I plan on getting it for my Hunting Horn. HH buffs so good.

Also Switch Axe buffs so good. I love my Jagras SwAxe. Gets four or five sleeps each hunt, along with KOs and "drooling" status.

If some of you guys are picking 15+ year old games as your most "recent" regretted purchase then every single game you've bought since then must have been a fucking masterpiece.

I did read the topic wrong, but honestly I don't have many VG purchases I regret. I don't buy a lot of games that I'm not sure I will enjoy. I can only really think of two other examples since then.

Anyway, to answer correctly, my most recent purchase regret is probably Stardew Valley. I love Harvest Moon, but that game got everything wrong. When you take out all the best parts of a farming sim you're just left with something horribly lame and boring.

hey, I got to experience going the wrong way this time. so I guess I just happened to pick correctly on the first river raft sequence. interesting that you could use this method to easily grind while bannon full heals the party infinitely for free. not really motivated to do that.

People used to put rubber bands on their controllers and leave the console on overnight to get to max level for no work at this spot. Although there are reasons why that's not a good idea that will become more apparent later on.

DQ can be a bit harder than other RPGs, although it's mostly because you're expected to put more thought into your gameplay than other RPGs. You need to be more aware of your equipment, you need to use status effects and the defend command when necessary (including in normal random battles), and you need to make use of the advantages the game gives you. You can't really sleepwalk through the series with mindless attacks interspersed with healing like most games in the genre.

That said, the beginning of DQ8 is harder than the beginning of the rest of the games in the series. I've gone into detail why before, but the summary is that most games have you go through two dungeons before you fight your first boss, so you normally go through one dungeon, make it to a town and get a chance to improve your equipment and heal up, then go through another dungeon and fight your first boss. This was the first game in the main series where you fight the first boss in the first dungeon, which means unless you play very well you'll be really outclassed and have few resources. It's a lot easier if you spend time exploring the world map beforehand, or partially go through the dungeon and return to town in the middle of it. This is really the only time in the game I'd consider it really helpful at least, the rest of the game I think is much easier.

GBA version is the way to go, especially if you use the music hack to make it sound more like the Super Nintendo version

The graphics are hideous. Besides that they're extremely poorly done also, with obvious tiling errors.

Don't know about the gameplay, although I remember hearing that the controls were still optimized for mobile touchscreens even on the PC version. It has the makings of a lazy, lazy port.
