Yeah I think saying it's due to dumb decisions from the top is more fair than calling the developers incompetent. There's only so much they can do with the tools and time they are given.

Stuff like changing engines and having issues due to that isn't a sign of incompetence. Often that's the norm.

Uncharted 4 and God of War had troubled productions. But they also had people who were willing to give them the time they needed to figure things out. I doubt Game Freak has that luxury.

I would say the incompetence lies a lot more with the people managing the project than the devs. They should have hired more people instead of bleeding their Pokemon team to work on Little Town Hero.

It sounds like they did put more people on it.

But sometimes that isn't enough. You can't get 9 women to make a baby in one month. Game development is often like that.

As far as I know Little Town Hero is done by a separate team within the studio. It sounds like Pokemon drama impacted that game more than vice versa.

I think the biggest issue is they didn't delay the game a year.

Bond isn't really holding onto its roots though. It's just trying to be Jason Bourne.

The past few films have been in direct conflict between what the filmmakers want and what fans of the classic Bond series want.

The last movie failed because of how hard it was trying to pander to it's original roots.

Casino Royale and Skyfall found a good balance.

Walking Simulator started off as an elitist term to use for narrative games. Games and reviewers some sort of ownership since then but a lot of people will never use it as an actual way to define a genre accurately.

Ironically the actual simulation of walking is a pretty big part of Death Stranding so it's more accurate to use there but unfortunately people will just use it as a way to insult the game. No point worrying about them really.

Why is it so hard for a movie based on a game to stay true to the source material and lore of a game?

The ONLY movie I've seen do it so far was Detective Pikachu.

The CGI Resident Evil movies actually take place between the games while the live action movies butchered the lore and source material.

This does fit the lore of Sonic. James Marsden's character will eventually become the President who has a picture of Sonic on his desk.

I think I'll play it when it goes to PC. It does seem to be a game where I need to be in the right headspace to play it but it sounds unique enough where I think I'll like it well enough. Primarily depends on if the missions feel rewarding but the community stuff sounds like it goes a long way to adding a lot of unique stuff that wouldn't otherwise be there.

Played through it on the Disney Collection just recently released. Was a pretty fun experience still. To be fair the game has a 'bug fix/refinded' version and a rewind feature but honestly it didn't seem too bullshit for the most part. Worst level is probably the magic carpet escape. You can tell the game had a strict deadline (it was developed 99 freaking days) thanks to that last level. The final boss is pretty lame.

The game is still so gorgeous though. Really cool mix of pixel art and animation that's still pretty unique.

If you like the games the collection is worth checking out. Comes out with a lot of bonus features like documentaries and design docs.

Cyber Sleuth was pretty good. Didn't bother with that direct sequel though.

My big thing is I dunno if I should splurge an extra $200AUD for the 3700x or just upgrade to the 3600. For now it seems like games perform pretty much the same on both but next gen consoles are gonna be 8 core/16 threads like the 3700x (although I'm aware they'll be significantly underclocked so it might not matter). I often stream games to a laptop so that could be a factor too.

I remember people saying the i5 6500 would be more than enough but that felt dated way quicker than I expected for certain games.

PC - A Plague Tale: Innocence. Going to play Fallen Order when that releases. Also playing JUJU with the wife when bored

Switch - Disney Collection: Aladdin and The Lion King. Play it on train trips.

Xbox One - In between games at the moment. Currently my Game Pass/360 BC machine. Might start up Monster Hunter World on it soon

PS4 - Nothing at the moment. My exclusive/PSVR machine.

I sometimes dig out the Vita/3DS for the odd game to give the Switch a break. Just finished Steins;Gate on Vita a few days ago.

Gears has the most bizarre damage variance in any video game. The Lancer takes an entire magazine to down an opponent, assuming you don't miss, while shotguns one-shot kill at point blank. That's such a huge variance.

And you can't headshot with the Lancer and I don't think it has any damage variance based on where it hits at all.

Gears is more about ambushing opponents than just shooting them. Positioning is important. It wouldn't be a fun game if you pop out of cover and immediately die from lancers.

Basically yeah. If a game relies on a good CPU the GPU can't make up for it.

I'm pretty sure the 1060 is the most commonly used GPU at the moment so I'm sure you can get a few more years out of it. But not at the same visual fidelity as PS5/Scarlett whenever those come out.

Your CPU might become a bottleneck soon (for some games that could be the case already) but it also depends on your GPU. I think you will be able to use the same motherboard.

But you didn't list your GPU and that's the most important part since games are generally more reliant on the GPU.

There's gonna be a pretty big bump for a lot of games in a year. Is your PC ready?

My CPU isn't. Will need to upgrade that and the motherboard before next gen starts I think. Got an 5 6500 and thinking of going for a Ryzen 3700x unless there's a good deal for the 3600 or 2700x.

I think I can stretch out my 1070 until 2021-2022 if I stick to 1080p.

I don't really believe a mixed reaction or controversy is all that bad for Star Wars.

The worse reaction it can get is apathy. Like what we saw for Solo.

I think Rise of Skywalker will be successful. People will absolutely watch pay and watch these movies expecting to hate them. So they can talk about them.

The rise of the First Order is pretty set up in the tie-in book that had Leia as the main character.

Sure this stuff probably would have made for a good movie but I think TFA was the movie it needed to be for Disney's debut. A return to basics. There's still fresh memories of The Phantom Menace being mocked for space politics.
