When it comes to things like Cheeseburgers and Fries, i agree, it is a personal choice. And eating too much of it can cause problems...But things like Cigarettes are designed to get people addicted with no other benefit at all. If I'm cautious about my diet and how much i eat, i can go to McDonalds and have a big mac combo twice a week even and still be fine. Plus, Even if the nutritional content isn't stellar, its still doing something positive to me. its sustaining me. You just have to watch how much you eat with regard to fat and sugar.

What does a Cigarette do for me that's positive? same can be said for alcohol. I know standard nicotine withdrawals aren't as bad as with other drugs, or even alcohol, but "cheeseburger" withdrawal isn't a thing. Yea, people can get addicted in the sense that they always want to have one and its all they want to eat....but Nicotine, Ethanol...Those things actually fuck with your brain chemistry to the point where if you take too much and then don't have it, your body gets fucked up. People don't start to involuntarily shake because they can't have a whopper. So i don't think its fair to compare the two.

With everything mentioned here is all about responsibility and moderation, But what benefit do cigarettes serve? Even alcohol doesn't have a benefit but you could argue that its better than cigs because if you're able to moderate it it can be fun for a good time with no major affect on your body....just like a trip to McDonalds. Difference is the Trip to McDonalds, if done responsibly, at least gives your body SOME nourishment. the other two don't, can have very serious affects on your body chemistry/organs, especially at a young age, offer absolutely no potential benefits at all, and thus, have age limits as a result.

Yea its funny that he is trying to compare the two situations to "get" me...its why i really don't respond to him seriously, anymore. I sort of regret having done it earlier on lol. The funny part is Trayvon didn't do anything to appear to be a threat except walk home. Meanwhile, Zimmerman was following him and hiding in bushes, appearing to be a threat...followed him to his dad's home where his little brother was and was hiding in bushes watching the house. So in this case, if you want to make the comparison, Trayvon is the dad of the family and Zimmerman was technically the Simpsons lmao. you don't get hide behind things and follow someone home then claim stand your ground when you kill that person for standing their ground against your perceived threat. if Homer pulled out a gun and killed the other dad first, should Homer be able to use stand your ground? Stand your ground against stand your ground? Seems kinda stupid, no? Its almost like context is a thing, but again, we all know his gimmick. He'll stretch logic as far as he can to argue....And i guess i kind of just responded to him again in a roundabout way...I'll stop now.

By allowing them to get away could mean that they could cause harm or death to someone else later.
And guess what, it shouldn't be ok for citizens to kill people on assumptions like that. In this instance, the Simpsons weren't trying to hurt anyone. Sure the family didn't know that, but that is why things like that shouldn't be normalized in a normal society. What if someone was walking their dog, lost control of the leash and the dog ran under a bush in that guys yard. the owner of the dog goes, simply to get the dog out, guy comes out with gun and shoots him dead while he's running....by your logic, because the home owner THOUGHT he was a threat and might harm others its ok to shoot at someone running away? "but the dog guy could have just explained that to the home owner"....kinda of hard to reason with and have a conversation with someone who steps out with a shot gun and points it at you. fight or flight does kick in, and if they choose flight and run away, put the weapon down.

That was before Stand Your Ground laws and they were running away and not in his house. He would be subject to prosecution. Likely manslaughter 1 or 2.
And even then, shooting at someone who is running away should not be considered "stand your ground"...once they choose to flee you are no longer standing your ground to defend your own life. them running away is not putting your life at risk. The "BUT WHAT IF THEY COME BACK" argument is always used here and i disagree with it...if they come back then you can defend yourself. just not when they're running away.

Yes. its not always about the money. Sure its less money NOW but it sounds like the chances for advancement are better at the new job, so you'll be able to make that back and maybe more, whereas, you make it sound like you've pretty much already topped out at your current job. If you can handle your current bills with the pay cut, think of it as temporary and work hard to move up and earn more. Sometimes you have to make a small sacrifice for a better situation in the end.

again, most people start smoking at younger ages and get hooked into adulthood. they don't start at adulthood. For a few months some HS students already are 18, still going to school with minors. even after they graduate Some 18 and 19 year olds are still friends with the now 16 and 17 year olds they went to school with. They still have that HS mentality while being friends with those people...this is one (very easy) way kids get their hands on Cigarettes and get hooked. There is a reason Joe Camel was a thing. the Cig companies know this. Until it was made illegal their main focus was to try to get kids in ways like this and get them addicted to nicotine. Raising the age to 21 can significantly cut into that which is a good thing. You can argue (this is a freedom issue) all you want, but that's not the only factor that is to be considered when things like this are discussed. There is no "right to smoke cigarettes" just because you're an adult. "you can vote but you can't smoke a cig!?", yes....you can also vote but not get into certain clubs.

If I had taken that time off, my employer would have topped it up and it would be like getting paid at full wages for a year. I realized after 3 weeks with a newborn that was a stupid idea and let my wife take the entire time off to herself.
I know here the mother gets 3 months paid, that can be extended an extra 3 months at a reduced rate of pay, and if they want to take more time they'd need to take a leave, which doesn't promise them their job status when they choose to return. I've worked and seen quite a few co-workers have babies...anyone who took more than 6 months never came back. mostly because anything longer doesn't "hold" their position.

Yea I'd be down for raising the enlistment age too. A lot of the 18 year olds they get are teens just out of high school, didn't do well in high school, don't put much thought into college or anything else and just say "well, might as well do this"...even 20 would be good. Gives them a good two years post high school to potentially gain some work experience, think it through and make a more educated decision as opposed to instantly saying "Yea i was an average C student all throughout HS i'm on my way to enlist" immediately after graduation. Of course that will never happen because its hard enough for them to get enrollments as it is...might as well take advantage of the vulnerable members of the graduating class every summer.

And that's just one potential positive. most people start smoking at a young age out of curiosity, get hooked, and keep going as adults...its not typically adults aged 21+ who are like "hmmmm...I think i wanna start smoking now".

Sure some are playing the game, but those who have adopted it to either signal real racism or as a "joke" to "trigger" people (as sad as that sounds for them), have kind of ruined that game, now. They're the ones who let 4Chan do what they did. they could have said "that shit's stupid, it a game" but instead they decided to go with "lol watch me trigger these people!"...Meanings of things change all the time and have for centuries. "Gay" used to just mean happy or joyous. Hell, its a lyric in the Flinstones theme....But you wouldn't go outside and say "Man, I'm having such a gay time right now!"....because the word has kind of shifted. Take responsibility for your actions. I don't think he was playing the circle game. if anything he was trying to "Trigger" people and this was his excuse and an easy one for the military to use to sweep it away and make people forget about it. Its interesting how the circle game started to make such a huge come back in media once people started doing things like this....no one was playing it for years then suddenly BAM, everyone is doing it all over, mostly people of a certain race....I guess they just got interested in the game again out of no where.

People need to understand that they're a new league, it will have growing pains. The talent they have, a lot of it, is developmental. They don't yet have the capital to be able to put out fully vetted superstars in the ring while also running a developmental league. its kinda being done all in one and there will be bumps along the way. Bumps like this that should be addressed and fixed. You gotta give them more than they've had before you say "they're gonna fail"...Let the company grow, let the Superstars develop, see who else they can bring in to help put developmental talent over and teach them. In a way, TNA was headed in that direction, but then they just sold out and decided to go full WCW and just use old WWF stars while stifling young development. AEW wants to develop talent first. If its still like this in a year, then you can start to worry.

Well, yea but it started as a game where you'd punch them. I remember it starting and getting big when it was on Malcolm in the Middle years ago. Of course you're not going to punch a child in the arm so people have adapted it when they play it...the game is to trick people to look down, just like the thing where you point at their chest then flick their nose when they look down. the point is it was above his waste directly in the camera....not much of a trick there. Yes, its not a first amendment issue AFTER HIS ACTIONS...as i said, if he just said "I don't like gay people" or something like that he would be fine. His first amendment rights were not violated here. people say that stuff all the time. they post it on twitter all the time. are they in jail? Nope. Its the fact that he acted on them towards a specific group, in this case, that club, and his actions of arson are a direct result of hate speech against a protected group....why is this so difficult for you to comprehend. Again, if your issue is the length of time he got, i agree with you, as i said several times, its a direct result if the inconsistency of our courts. if this happened in a different state with a different judge he might have just gotten probation, who knows. Why do people keep ignoring that it wasn't the flag that got him the time. You're ignoring so much context.

Hes not wrong though
Yes he is. I agree we need to do more for the environment and support green initiatives. Unfortunately, i also have to live a life and that sometimes includes driving a car which at the current moment can make things worse. I understand that and will continue to push for cleaner options, but until those cleaner options present themselves I'm not a hypocrite for participating in society the way it currently is. This is what we've been handed, so this is how we currently have to do things. doesn't mean we also can't work to make those things within society better.

Its like saying to someone who is protesting for lower tuition costs "Hmmm, you think college costs too much yet you still went to college...CURIOUS!"....Yea of course they did. they had to to be able to make it in the society we currently have set so they could get a better degree and hopefully a better job (which isn't even a promise but that's another discussion for another time). Them being willing to do it then doesn't mean they suddenly now can't fight to make things better at the same time. Its just a stupid low IQ argument.

Cancer only spreads if you ignore it. I will blame him,but I will also blame people like you from trying to control speech.
Its not controlling speech. its preventing the spread of hate speech, which leads to stuff like this. Sure, he just took a flag and burnt it, but if he was more reckless with the fire and caused more damage, we've seen people do more harm due to hate speech like this, and not just against the LGBTQ...There are consequences for your actions. If he just said "I hate gay people" he wouldn't have gotten arrested, but he took it several steps further. who is to say he wouldn't take it further than this later on? He was yelling at the news reporter like a psycho and showed zero remorse. he still has that hate in him which he already acted on and has done nothing to show he won't act on it again...this is all his fault, no one is trying to "censor him". this isn't a first amendment issue.

and yes, i don't know if 15 years fits the "crime" but that's more an issue of our judiciary system. depending on what state you're in, what district you're in, what court house you're in and what judge you get, the same crimes can get different sentences. Its always been like that. That's an issue with our court system. But what he got is a direct result of him acting on his speech, and directing it at people, in this case that club and people in it....,not the speech itself.

I'm confused. He stole it and burnt it some where else. So it's not like he was trying to burn down the church. How is that 15 years? 1 year and 2 years probation seems more fitting for a heavy punishment for this. Yeah, I never want our first amendment fuck with if something like this can get 15 years.
"He was found guilty of a hate crime that is a class D felony, 3rd degree harassment and reckless use of fire"

Its not hard to just leave people alone and not attack protected groups. Fuck outta here with this "MUH FIRST AMENDMENT" nonsense. You can't yell FIRE in a crowded room, you can't use hate speech...and those hate speech laws are the result of people like him doing things like this, so blame him and others like him, not the law.

I like when people use this type of logic, because you know right away that they aren't smart enough to debate and you can just move on with your night.

he got 15 year for a hate crime against a protected group, not simply for burning a flag. he also stole the flag and was cited for reckless use of fire. its not like he went to the store, bought one and just burnt it. he stole one that was hanging somewhere already and burnt it in a hate crime against a group of people whom are protected....So no he didn't get 15 years for "burning a flag". he got 15 years for a lot more.
