Yea, all your basic info is already in a database, some of which every average joe has access too. Marketing and sales firms care more about your spending habits and they pay for that stuff and they don't need your phone number for it. There is no need to be paranoid about that. Credit card info, social, stuff like that i get but not anything like this...

I used to work at a store that offered online order pickups. when our customers came in we would need to run their IDs as a security precaution to make sure that its consistently only the name on the order that's picking it up. One way we did this was just tell them to swipe their ID like they would a credit card on the pad...there was always a handful of people who were like "I don't wanna do that, i don't you to have my information in your database!"....and i'm like....its not going to a database we're just making sure no one hacked your account bought something as you. People get too paranoid about that shit.

They can be made, though. Not sure why they'd make one, and it seems pretty dangerous to do so, but a less potent lightsaber could be made today. Again, i can understand getting upset about it in certain contexts, like if you are a smart teen, giving a good argument, or debate, or idea, and someone says "you're just a KID what do you know?"...that's condescending and in that context its not about being called a kid, its about not being heard because you're younger...you're still a kid, though. The same adult could have said "you know, you got some good ideas, kid, lets roll with that one"....They still called you a kid but in that context they're not automatically dismissing you because of the fact that you're a kid.

I mean, likewise. If youre so offended at the observation that people who infantile tend to be very immature for their age themselves and go THATS SOMETHING ONLY A KID WOULD SAY youre showing your own lack of self-awareness and proving me right.
I'm not offended by anything you said. I just don't think anyone ITT is "infantilizing" you or any other 17 year old. they're just explaining to you that maturity has nothing to do with it. Again, calling a 17 year old a kid doesn't mean you instantly view them as a baby or an infant. They're a kid. a teenage kid. That much is just a fact. You can be a very mature kid. You can be a kid who is vastly more mature than a 35 year old who calls you a kid...it doesn't change the fact that you're still, for the moment, a kid by definition. Since you like to use dictionary definitions...

Definition of kid (Entry 1 of 4)
1
: a young person
kids in high school
especially : CHILD
a married couple with two kids
often used as a generalized reference to one especially younger or less experienced
the kid on the pro golf tour
you poor kid

Its not a big deal, man.

you can be a mature kid. it doesn't mean you can't be considered a kid. there are 13 year olds who act more mature than 22 year olds. they're still considered kids in a sense. Older people will typically view most younger people, especially people still in their teens "kids"...it doesn't mean they think you're a baby and act like an immature 3 year old...its not something to get so offended over, dude...but past all that if your response to being called a "kid" is "NO IM NOT IM A MATURE ADULT"....you might not be as mature as you think you are.

Depends on how it was said to him.

"shut up you're just a kid", I understand his response

"this year at christmas dinner you're gonna be at the kids table", eh, still understand, but such an adverse reaction isn't necessary

also, some older people just call anyone younger than them "kid". watch any sport broadcast and the older announcers always say something like "you know this KID is gonna be something special" about 23 or 24 year olds...in that context, getting upset like that about being called a kid at 27 would be stupid.

It's not bad, just useless in stopping the issue
Not useless. "they're still gonna find ways to do it!" isn't an argument against making it more difficult. Someone fresh out of HS, 18 years old usually has a different mentality than someone who is 21 and a few years matured....not everyone, but most are. Its more likely that 18 year old with a HS mentality who went to classes with some of those 14-15 year olds who are asking, will buy cigs are alcohol(if Alcohol was lowered to 18) for a HS teen than a 21 year old, I think....does it happen, yea, of course this won't completely stop that from happening. no law will stop anything from happening 100%....But i can see the benefit here and how it can reduce the number of times it does happen. Now that this is in place, you can start working on the next step. you get fewer teens addicted, fewer people growing up addicted, its a huge step in the direction that it sounds like you want to go, which is where we can get rid of them completely, or at least completely overhaul things in the tobacco industry....now unfortunately due to politics and lobbyists that's easier said than done, but a move like this is a step in the right direction. an attempt to help cut into the number of teens who get addicted and stay addicted for life. its worth a try and we'll see what the stats show on it. But like i said earlier, politics won't let us directly address the issue. we kinda have to start at a place like this and inch towards the better resolution.

This has been discussed, and yes that's how it happens. But its more likely for someone 13 or 14 to get it from an 18 year old than a 21 year old because they have closer ties to the 18 year old, either by still being in school with them, or still knowing them for a year or 2 after they graduate. Does the latter (a 21 year old buying it) happen? Yea of course, but i feel like the disconnect when it comes to a 13 year old asking a 21 year old will help reduce that vs a 13 year old asking an 18 year old who JUST graduated, still has a HS mentality and was cool with that 13 year old while they were in classes together....You know?

That education needs to continue on for much longer, and like i said we need more youth groups where these kids can go. Having a week of DARE isn't doing much. There are other ways to a) get this education in the curriculum and b) find ways to keep the students occupied with more programs THEY find interesting. And i don't mean those random church groups that most students would find corny and scoff at, or an after school "study hall" where students just mess around until they can leave anyway. Dare just....didn't work. They spoke to students about drugs and gangs, but those students were so young (3-6thish grade), that the majority didn't think about it or even absorb much of it. By the time high school came peer pressure kinda of superseded what some random cop and a bunch of overly happy, corny people told them during an assembly in 5th grade where they got a pencil that said DARE on it...Its better to use those potential funds to fund more after school programs, or academies where kids can go, do homework, be creative, etc.

I know this is an extreme example, and he had some other help along the way (a lot of it but...), one of Chance the Rappers first mixtapes was made after he was suspended from school. Rather than stay home or just fuck around on the streets he said he would go to these local clubs at the library that people in the city put on, one of which included music and beat making, etc....he focused on that. If we can get more things like that around the nation it would do more good than just saying "drugs bad, don't do drugs, here's a branded pencil to remind you drugs bad".
