I don't know why it never became like....a big franchise. It's tone and writing are perfect for multiple movie adaptations, video game tie-ins, comic books and other expanded lore.

One thing that I guess surprises me (because the Fox X-Men movies have taken up most X-Men real estate in pop culture) is how well developed the rest of the team are. Like yeah Wolverine caught on because he was the tough guy, but he doesn't really overshadow everyone else. Like even Gambit gets significant character development, and he's the most straight forward character on the roster.

It wasn't like with Sam Wilson taking up the Captain America mantle. Thor isn't just Thor's superhero persona, it's literally who he is. It's his name. You can borrow his power by wielding Mjolnir, but you don't really become Thor. Unless you've got oldschool shenanigans in which Thor is inside you and wielding Mjolnir manifests him materially.

But the way they were trying to play it out was "she isn't Miss Thor or Lady Thor, she is THE Thor". And that was dumb.

To be fair, a number of characters actually took up the name Thor.
