or on the wrong soil?

like you were born in Omaha Nebraska in 1991, but your soul screams 1800's England?

or that you were born 100 years too soon?

Wrong, no. But I often think about how different my life would be...Like my parents moved here from Fiji, and randomly chose some small town in California (well, it wasn't random, my Aunt was already here with some of her Husband's family but they chose to move to this area)....Like what if my family decided to go to NY instead? Or even Canada (where we had some family). My life would be so different. Or how happy i am that i was born now and not in 1750...But i'm sure born in 2700 will look back at the 2000s so far and say the same thing. (or not it might be 500 degrees outside because of us)

it would be an interesting to see a movie where it was too hot outside, so humanity became mole-people who live underground, literally using the Earth's crust as a last defense or something.

I'm sure there's a flaw in there somewhere, but Sharknado happened, so...

sometimes I wonder what would have happened if my grandparents stayed in the South instead of migrating West.

I used to fantasize about the past until I realized I'd get killed eventually in all of those situations, lol. now I kinda wish I could be frozen for about 50 years and pick up from there.

Wrong? Lol
No.

But I do hate that I only get to experience MY life.
I never get to see what life is like being from another country, speaking another language, etc

You can learn another language and go to another country. Next best thing.

Dunno

But IF there is something we arent talking centuries... but decades at most.. like 10-20 years.

There is a few things i feel a bit too young to have experienced properly.

I recall reading, or watching, something that basically called out the whole "Born in the wrong century" as a fools errand.

Born a decade too late? Thats a different thing in my mind, if only slightly.

My soul doesn't scream. It's got a more passive aggressive thing going on, if anything. The world has a long way to go, but the connectivity that I have to see people I really like and respect talk about real shit and show compassion towards others on demand, gives me a place to plug in that I feel like is needed. Probably got me through the bulk of my depression. Plus I think the good people got even better to others, now that they get all the insight they want on how to be better to others. It's a prime imo. It's not my personal prime, but it's a prime for people like me, who didn't peak in high school

I remember being naive enough in high school to think that my generation would be the one to break all of the fucked up patterns taught by past generations, just based on my interactions with my equally naive friends, lolololol!

I'm still connected with some friends on social media, but life has killed a lot of people's joy in adulthood. I keep seeing post from people reacting differently to circumstances. mostly people seeking an identity to be comfortable with/proud of.

I do wish I was born ten years prior. Where all my peers didnt network by social media and talking to girls in person wasnt frowned upon constantly.

Dances were actually made for two in high school/college.

school wasnt a financial bomb and I could actually afford a house in my 20s.

Anything longer than that? Im not white, so no.

From an American standpoint, I really dont feel like youre going to get yes responses from anyone other than white males. This country pretty well sucked for everyone not white and not male for most of its history. Even white women were subjected to socially acceptable abuse at the hands of their spouses.

I spend a lot of time wondering what is really me and what is simply societal conditioning.

like.. would I be more desensitized to, or at least more accepting of violence as a standard punishment for crime if I were witnessing it every day of my life since childhood? get caught stealing, get stoned by the community for 5 minutes. if you survive, you get to pay a fine and you'll be free. if you die, it was God's will, lol. if I came from a place that had been doing this for 70+ years while I'm only a 24 year old, would I take to social media to protest the treatment?

then other times I find myself in favor of fucked up things happening to people who do atrocities, so I wonder if I'd be part of the angry mob during those times where it was more common for community "justice" type of things, lol.

To be fair, I think thats more of a cultural/traditional thing. Like many countries still dress in clothing from the far past for traditional reasons.

eh.. I guess you're right. similar but not the same.

No.

Reminder.... the vast majoriry of human history sucked for the vast majority of humans. Hell, the average middle class person today has a higher standard of living than most emperors and kings two hundred years ago, aside from needing to work for a living.

No not really.
I do find the weird feeling of "I wasn't there but I can definitely see people missing this." very engaging though. It's one of the feelings I take to mean I've found something good.

Plus you need the bad and the good and that bit of escapism. If we weren't absolutely submerged in awful things, there'd be little value in digging up old stuff and getting immersed in what it makes you think about. They'd just be present day things that fail to counterweight the bad.

Whether past times would actually have been better to live in because of narratives your life would have or things you wouldn't be aware of is pretty up in the air, but I don't think "I wish I was from that time" is a great response to finding something from it you like.
Unless y'know you wanna build a time machine and take your appreciation of said time back with you.
