| joe40001 05/21/19 7:14:34 PM #1 | He basically made a point in one of his videos how things on a subatomic level are made of "quanta" which he says is the same as energy which he then conflates with the eastern philosophical idea of energy which is like an aura or chi type thing. I really want to trounce him so I don't want to get any facts wrong, but there are like 5 problems with what he is saying, so hopefully you guys can help me brainstorm my response here. I was thinking like "Well in the world of Physics Energy is defined as mass times distances squared divided by time squared, in SI units this is kilogram^2*meter^2/seconds^2 or Newton*Meters or Jules, it is a measurement of force over distance, this is a separate concept from the subatomic particles we talk about in quantum physics, these are frequently determined by spin states and form all matter, (no subatomic particles are literally energy right? They are just exchanged in various forces, yes?) When talking about a more philosophical idea of energy we usually have some idea of "good" and "bad", but there is no physical equivalent. Ions, Jules, Calories, Potential Energy, Voltage, Mass, Current, or any subatomic particle could relate to what you are saying but none of these are thought of a "good" or "bad" an "aligned chi" or whatever you might say, they are just units of measurement. And even when you go subatomic there is nothing there that matches up with what you are talking about. Unless you go out and say 'an electron neutrino lepton is bad and a bottom quark is good' or do anything more specific you are basically saying nothing, and even if you did there is no evidence that humans can through touch measure a shift in subatomic particles. I am not saying it is 100% disproven that there is any sort of ability for humans to through their mood augment some element of their body such as temperature or electromagnetic field in extremely tiny ways that other people might pick up on, but much more likely what is going on is that of galvonic skin response in combination with evolutionarily learned detection of emotion through small micro-gestures. When you say "I feel a strong energy in this person" in the philosophical sense, you don't mean "this person can apply 100 Newtons of force over many meters" you mean something much more about their mood and state of mind. These things can be picked up on through microgestures and touch, but have basically nothing to do with the physics conception of energy and certainly not sub atomic particles. . . . So physics people of CE, double check I'm accurate in the smack down, one key thing I'm a little shakey on is that subatomic particles are in no way themselves energy (which they shouldn't be because they can be force carriers but energy is force over distance) It's a pet peeve of mine when people hear something in physics and then cite it as if it supports their argument without understanding what it means. --- "joe is attractive and quite the brilliant poster" - Seiichi Omori https://imgur.com/TheGsZ9 |
