Maybe it's that the new game is a tiny too automated (you can literally hold R to do basic web swings while in Spider-Man 2 you just stay holding on to the web until you let go...and when web swinging the game kinda has a forcefield on the ground that keeps you from colliding with anything) and that there's no speed-up button.
