It's simple supply and demand, economics 101.this is not true in most areas. in a lot of cases it's just more profitable to keep apartments empty, or to rent them out as airbnb, than it is to lower the monthly rent. but now that you mention it, I do not believe that anyone should have to pay for housing. thank you for bringing that up. If the only assets you buy are stuff like a tablet that loses all value in 2 years, you don't build wealth. There's little unfair here.
