One thing that always irritated me about the song (apart from, you know, the song itself) was that they said they went into the studio to record it before Taylor's voice dropped. Uh...why? So you can record a version that shortly won't sound like the version you can play? (And sure enough, within a year they had to drop the song down a key when his voice changed). Probably because that's the way they envisioned the song being and if they waited they would have never been able to get the sound they liked. Live performances always sound different than recordings anyway so who cares if they had to go down a bit when his voice got deeper? At least they got the sound they wanted in the studio forever. --- |
