I gave the examples of the GC games as a first point of reference and I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on that. But that was me trying to be reasonable, because I think the fact that it's even arguable is insane. So the BOTW comparison was in fact in support of that original point, i.e. that it frustrates me that things are being removed with nothing to make up for it. Because graphics improvements are obviously possible. I don't care about graphics in Pokemon games until you start telling me that you're removing gameplay features in favor of them and then proceed to turn around graphics (and animations, which is another part of my point that you seem to be ignoring) that are at least relatively close to the product on a console from 15 years ago. --- https://imgur.com/UYamul2 Spurs - Yankees - Eagles - Golden Knights |

And even if we're not talking graphics, just go back and look at some of the battles. The Orre games show off so much personality for Pokemon animations when they get hit or faint. Nowadays every Pokemon just flinches a little. MoogleKupo141 posted... But every mainline title starting with X/Y has felt like a step backward for the series - Doubled down on linearity from Unova by making linear routes also empty and boring and similar-looking - Really ramped up the handholding with multiple instances where you're just gifted rare and powerful and sometimes legendary Pokemon - Exp. All wreaking havoc on the leveling curve - BW and BW2 had some of the best postgame content in the series, X/Y had basically none - Prevalence of annoying one-note NPCs that show up way too often to talk about nothing - Story in Unova actually had some maturity and depth to it and was easily the best in the series, X/Y's was barely there and featured the worst evil team - Began the trend of adding things that functionally changed nothing and selling them as bold new innovations. | NBIceman 07/08/19 11:37:21 AM #25 | I'm just annoyed by all the "saying one thing, doing pretty much the exact opposite." I don't personally care about no National Dex. I think it's a silly decision, but the way I play Pokemon games it doesn't really affect me. What bothers me is that their reasoning for not including the NatDex is essentially that they wanted to instead direct resources to delivering a more polished experience in other ways, and they give us trees that look like Ocarina of Time's trees and move animations ripped straight from the 3DS. Look at the Yamper Tail Whip animation. If you're gonna cut stuff out because it's too costly and/or labor intensive, you need to be making up for it in other ways. But the Gamecube games and Battle Revolution looked better visually than SwSh does, and the "new" stuff they're adding isn't really new - it's just goofier versions of things we already had. Pokemon games used to feel like adventures. Every generation felt like a different one. Their solution is to introduce a mechanic that's even rarer, more over-the-top, and worse-looking. I am indeed a proponent of "let them make their art how they want, it's their bodies." That includes unprotected chair shots just like it includes dumb bumps or other dangerous spots. But I've always maintained at the same time that I think it's stupid. They're morons for doing it. I think Darby Allin is a nutcase for taking the bumps he does, and I think Shibata's an idiot for the headbutt spots. But at least those things look cool. Unprotected chair shots look stupid. Cody just has his hands hanging limply at his side for that - why didn't he do anything? They even had the story of his hand being targeted all match, just have him holding onto it with the other hand and it would've been just a little bit better. Or have him put one hand up and fail to block it or something. Anything but the "tilt my head slightly forward for the sake of doing an unprotected chair shot."
