And there are plenty of conservatives here (most of the middle class and blue collar workers), and cops will be conservative no matter where you go in the US so I'm not sure what's surprising. And it's true, we're not a very diverse state, with only the cities having significant minority populations, but it's extremely rare to find anyone outwardly racist. --- |

There should be safety nets and programs to help people who really need it, but if you take things too far it removes motivation to actually work and benefit society and themselves. I say this as someone who grew up poor with a single mother who used housing assistance (and I think it really benefited my upbringing and obviously helped her out), but if she didn't work and instead relied on government handouts to get by, it would have had a negative impact on my work ethic and maybe would have created an attitude of being "owed" things just for existing. This is why both parties are wrong and a middle path is the most beneficial. --- |

Although I am excited for RDR2, Soul Calibur, and I think there will be a few more games worth getting before next gen. But I think this might be my last console (outside of Nintendo). Consoles had an edge over PC gaming but that time is now basically completely over. I'll probably invest in a PC when next gen starts. --- |

I'm working as a geologist and graduated studying geology 2 years ago and our program was at least 50/50 but slightly favored women. At work, more male geologists but still quite a few female ones, even in higher up positions. So it's really it's just the TEM that's male dominant. --- |

I haven't really minded the time wasted that much, it's the gas spent that's more noticeable. But I am moving closer, should end up being only 25-40mins after the move. Metro Boston area sucks. --- |

Like the World's Fattest Man getting sent to Mars guy (Gammacatch I think was his name) and the guy who would always post stories about beating up the veteran father's of his girlfriends, whilst claiming to be a pacifist. His topics would always rile a ton of people up (and blood was everywhere) Nightmaker, ZeroFlameCutter, Houle+Pouncealot, and of course the many other posters already mentioned. Tadg30 posts a lot of the same gimmicky content that was fun back then, but unfortunately we've all lost the naivety we had back then to argue about how real the stories are. But CE is just worse now because there's less people in general. There's no audience for stories (real or made-up), CYOAs, or forum games anymore. --- |

In my area a nice 100k house just isn't doable. I was looking in the 70-80k range for a house and let me tell you... these are not the houses you want to be living in, nor the neighborhoods. I got a real nice condo for 52k and love it. $447 a month payment is a steal. It helped it was a foreclosure and the bank was ready to get rid of it, but you can find something. I don't live in an area where that's possible. Even shitty houses in eastern Mass are 300k+, and rent anywhere outside of a terrible neighborhood is 1700+ for studio or 1 bedroom. As far as my commute goes, I'd be going from a 1-1.5hr commute to a 30-50min commute depending on traffic and exactly what town I move to. --- |
