I've always done "normal hotels". What are the benefits of a hostel other than cost?

The circumstances of staying in a hostel forces you meet new people and make new friends. And at the day's end when sightseeing is done, you have a group of people you can go out with, or you can order a pizza and watch a movie, or just drink a six pack and just talk. I stayed in one for Austin City Limits this past month, and it was marvelous. Half the people weren't even there for the festival, but were just travelers passing through, and it was like college all over again for the weekend, except everyone was mostly older and more worldly.

Normally the hotel room is just a place to sleep at the end of the day. I've had some great hotel experiences, but the hostel was just more than just a place to lay my head.

I guess if you're looking to go out and bring back company, the hostel is not a good setup for that. But if you don't like traveling alone, I think hostels are a good fix.

Make voting paper again

I had the opportunity to use a machine a few years ago (In CA it's optional). I messed up my absentee paper ballot and went down to the Registrar-Recorder to vote.

They showed me how it works and everything. Very thorough. And it was interesting. At the end I politely said "Thank you. Now may I have a paper ballot".

I realize a machine still counts the paper ballot but I just don't trust voting machines. Too much to go wrong: power supply, "accidental" shortages of machines, hacking, malfunction and who knows what else.

The polling place I went to this morning is in the suburbs and had at least 20. I was in and out

The machines should be distributed based on population in the precinct. Anything else is fishy.

I've done Japan, France and Italy solo and loved it. New people, places & experiences (good, bad and so-so).

Hopefully this feature carries over to the next GTA game. Where if you kill KKK members or Nazis you don't get a wanted level. Or at the very least if you punch them in the face.

I haven't played the game but I believe I read somewhere that you do not get a wanted level for killing Klansmen in RDR2.

Another thing: level VIT first. You'll need it to survive and its "cheaper" the earlier you start adding to it. You don't want to be a "glass cannon". Then worry about endurance and your damage stat (Dex or Str). This is the first rule of the Dark Souls boards.

usually it is advised to first raise your base stats to be able to use whatever weapon you're trying to use long term (which might require no investment at all)

I stand by my advice.
