The Sears in my local mall is somehow still there, even though it always appeared deserted whenever I looked in there.
Speaking of the mall, it actually seems to be doing alright, perhaps because it got a big movie theater and a half-dozen restaurants(not including the food court) to move in. The other old "anchor" stores(Macy's, Dick's Sporting Goods) probably aren't doing great, but people are always in Target(it's the pro place to buy theater snacks).

I've always found Americans' resistance to providing proof of identity before voting to be bizarre.

You act as if Jim Crow never happened.

Yeah, in theory, there's nothing wrong with Voter ID laws. The problem is that, in practice, they're an attempt to continue the long, sordid American tradition of disenfranchising poor people, especially African and Hispanic Americans or just anyone who won't vote the "right" way.
If you want to ask people for an I.D. , fine. But voting is a right, and it is the obligation of the states and the federal government to make getting that I.D. easy. And your vote should never be thrown out because you don't have one or you go to the wrong polling place. Because, in the end, voter-side vote fraud basically doesn't exist.

I don't really follow the indian reservations thing. Are they considered citizens on the state or is it an entirely separate thing?

It's basically an autonomous state within a state. While on reserve land, it's their law and their rules. The police can't enter their territory. In Canada, they don't pay taxes for property or jobs worked on reserves (and only on reserves, meaning most still pay taxes because they work jobs outside of the relatively business free reserves). However, they are still Canadians, can still vote in Canadian elections, still are subject to Canadian law when on Canadian land, etc.

Yeah, that's how it works in the U.S. , so far as I know.
Or, well, how it's supposed to work. The federal government as well as state governments still love screwing over Native Americans.

The money's great and all, but it's worthless without a strong candidate. Knocking off an incumbent Senator is a difficult task(for example, Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill appears likely to survive yet again despite being from an increasingly red state). Collins is popular, and we can't yet be certain how much that will change because of her vote for Kavanaugh(Maine is a reasonably blue state, so she will almost certainly take a hit).
Plus, the Maine Democratic Party has struggled of late.

The Democratic Party establishment is not interested in doing anything that would upset its donor class. This is why, for example, you have Nancy Pelosi saying they'll bring back pay-go and Chuck Schumer is saying they'll raise the threshold for approving judicial nominees back to 60: they don't want to do Medicare-for-All, they don't want to significantly raise taxes, or even seat judges who might upset their donors.
And they're still better than the Republicans! That's the most damning indictment of American politics.

I was gonna extend the topic to whether you think Columbus committed genoicide, but I didn't want to open that whole can of worms.

If you go by the definition of Genocide it's "Intentional", but yes like you said Ferdinand and Isabelle did try to protect the natives as much as possible.

Well, Isabelle did, anyway. All of the New World colonies were technically under the auspices of the Crowns of Castille and Leon(i.e. hers). (On a side note, the fact that he was essentially the junior partner of the union really bothered Ferdinand, enough that Isabelle always made sure his name was placed before hers in official documents and decress).
In any case, they did not and could not do very much about it. Emperor Charles V also ordered Pizarro not to harm Atahualpa(Charles was all about the divine right of kings, so even though Atahaulpa was a heathen, Charles still believed he was the divinely-appointed leader of the Inca).

Also, while it's true Europeans had little to do with most of the natives dying, their treatment of them was undeniably brutal to the point that even some contemporary observers were horrified and disgusted. And it's well-documented.

There's no real way to lose here.
Either the allegations are unsubstantiated bullshit, or we avoid putting a rapist dirtbag on the Supreme Court.

Let the investigation investigate. That's the whole point of investigating.

The DNC/RNC flowchart has a solution for everything

If the FBI Investigation:

Finds no evidence (DNC):

"His demeanor shows he isn't fit"

"It doesn't mean it didn't happen #IbelieveHer"

"He liked about his teen drinking -> Perjury -> Disqualified"

"Trump interfered with the investigation"

"The investigation wasn't long enough"

"This was a job interview, not a trial, and he failed it"

Finds evidence (RNC):

"He was a teen, come on"

"What about Bill Clinton"

"It's all circumstantial"

"Why did she wait until now?"

"It doesn't matter because it's past the statute of limitations"

"The Deep State is in cahoots with the Democrats to defeat our Lord and Savior Donald Trump!"

You're treating the Democrats and Republicans like their monolithic, which, in this case, is uniquely misguided. Senators Collins and Murkowski are unusually sensitive to women's issues(for Republicans) and the charges against Kavanaugh being substantiated could well lead them to oppose Kavanaugh(and, unlike Jeff Flake, they've demonstrated they'll actually vote against their party when it matters).
On the Democratic side, you have Senators Donnelly, Manchin, and Heitkamp, who all voted to confirm Gorsuch. Manchin in particular seems to openly be looking for cover to vote for Kavanaugh, and all of them could possibly benefit politically by putting daylight between themselves and their Democratic colleagues. But only if voting for Kavanaugh becomes less controversial(i.e. the investigation doesn't turn up much).

Because, in the past 50 years or so, taxes have been slashed, military spending has increased precipitously, and faith in science has cratered. Also, the Shuttle Program was both kind of a dead-end and suffered two high-profile disasters, which hurt the prestige of the space program immensely.
Without sufficient funding or political will, space exploration is mostly a matter for telescopes(Earth and space-based) and for the amusement of billionaires.
Capitalism as an economic system is also not really good at "thinking" long-term. Space exploration isn't going to be profitable anytime soon.
