2001 - okay the competition was stiff this year, we've had max payne, FFX, and literally GTA motherfucking 3, one of the genre defining games, hell it was THE game. Among other games but Melee was pretty good
2008 - the king of co-op zombie shooters, mf Left 4 Dead came out, also one of the best horror games of all time, Dead Space, Fallout 3, MGS4, Far Cry 2, PERSONA 4
2014 - okay this year was kind of a flub in general, but we got Dark Souls 2, the hidden gem Titanfall, The Evil Within, Wolfenstein, Civilization: Beyond Earth, Divinity Original Sin

although it didn't help the previous 2 smash games kinda came and went.. community didn't really stick with them long

i can't even play smash online because the lag is so bad man and the online system is terrible in general.. you will be hard pressed to find anyone that legitimately enjoys Smash Ultimates random ass online. It's basically perma quick play. Even the pros are saying its shitty. I've had matches that are 13fps because some dude probably has the bare minimum internet to be connected. I know for sure it's not me because my internet is fast enough to stream AC Odyssey on project stream at 1080p/60fps with no drops.. meh

Slow as molasses matchmaking, guarding doesn't work half the time, everytime you load in you get forced to view several notifications, even after the game is done and you level up theres about 8 pop ups that take their sweet time to close, so good luck trying to quit after a game unless you're spamming the ok button and know just where to go..

The Switch's hardware limits what it can do. To use tech parlance, Switch's processor use ARM tech (the same in mobile phones) while consoles use x86 tech (the same in PCs). x86 is far more capable in what it can do, and the number of things it can do concurrently.
