Midnight releases in my town always have fun shit to do until midnight though. People would bring drinks and food and our GameStop would have TVs and consoles set up to let you play for a few hours until then. When Halo Reach came out we had a small tournament, for example. Fallout 4 had a half dozen consoles set up with people playing and watching and talking about it. It was fun.

Everywhere I've been, it's been people just standing in line, maybe talking to each other, we go in the store in our assigned group order, get the game, and leave. So I can save my time(because I work a 9-5) and just buy digital, take a nap, wake up at midnight and play it if for some reason i really want to play at midnight.

also saves money when you live in a state that doesn't pay tax on digital like delaware cough

If you really want to play the game early, with digital 99% of the time it will be ready to play at midnight that day, and it will be already downloaded on your system. Sure you can't return the game for a small portion of your money back when you get bored of it but idk digital is just a lot more convenient unless you're low on space.

I assume anyone who would walk into a store to pick up smash bros would know its release date and that this scenario would be very very unlikely. People getting it as a gift would do so over a holiday season, and anyone looking to randomly buy it with an IQ higher than a 1st graders would google to see if the game is actually out yet being that almost no one is talking about it.

They'd also have to be even dumber to assume that online only codes can be returned for a full refund from a third party seller

also they need to stop removing comics. when marvel adds an issue, it stays on the service from then on. this temporary library crap needs to stop.

they'll respond to feedback. If people unsub due to the comic rotation they'll improve it. I'm sure they're not losing out on any sales by uploading 20 year old comics. The sweet spot for any media is between release and 3 months for most sales

I don't think it'll outsell the Wii either. Sure the Switch is going strong now, but thats because Smash Bros. How many Zeldas and Marios are they gonna release on the system? The audience that wants to play those games have most likely purchased by now or will soon and it's still a new system. Smash Bros is a once a system game, Zelda is 1-2 a system, they'll be relying on Mario spinoffs and what not to keep moving systems.

DC movies and TV shows, curated comics(looks like they started to add a lot more in but they're still missing some, forgiven since it literally just launched like 2 months ago and Unlimited has been out for over a decade)

also 7.99 a month compared to Marvels 9.99 but MU is purely comics and it does it well(although I've noted they're missing some issues)

Even if literally every Switch was sold in the US only, it probably still isn't the best-selling Nintendo console in the US.

Nintendo clearly hoping that it pulls handheld numbers for them, given the monstrous success of the Game Boy and DS lines, but I kind of doubt that this would be viewed akin to handhelds that fans are more likely to buy newer renditions of the same generation.

over the lifetime it did horribly, like the gamecube. Nintendo tends to get beaten by Sony when it comes to console sales anyway, the Wii was an outlier because of its heavy casual approach and wii sports and things were righted very quickly with the Wii U
