Oh, shit. As soon as I saw this guy's portrait I knew I liked him. His race is listed as "unknown" so we can safely just imagine that he's not human. His glowing eyes or mask or whatever the hell that is, it's pretty cool. Once I looked at his full body and posture he looks a little bit weird and clunky, but there's a certain charm to that as well. If he just had a normal "human standing straight up" body type it'd be easy to imagine he was just a generic human. It's harder to feel that way looking at his weird posture and proportions. But, maybe. Who really knows?

His weapon is apparently a lamp post. That's pretty fun. I like improvised weapons.

The skins I looked at, I think they reveal a little too much and make you have a more clear idea of what he is. I think I liked him better when he was mysterious. Funny enough I thought the Nemesis splash art looked kind of bad, but the ingame model for it looks very cool.

Gonna be an overall high ranking for this guy. He's not as awesome as some of my favorites, especially the monsters, but he's definitely well above the level of generic human badass.

I'm going to pronounce that as Jay C and there's nothing you can do to stop me. Was going to make fun of his superman wannabe haircut but then I saw he was literally listed as "the defender of tomorrow"... so I guess that was pretty intentional, huh?

I think he's another time traveler or time based character, assuming his title and abilities are being understood correctly by me skimming his profile for all of 25 seconds. Love hammers, they're one of my favorite weapons, and that transforming into a cannon is enough to rank him at least slightly above the Ekko who I have a similar opinion about --time based powers are kind of cool, but at the end of the day he's just another pretty normal looking fighter guy.

Looking at the rest of the list above Ekko I think Jayce is actually good enough to clear more than a few spots, issue is that he ends up being near Jax and I think there is a divide between them. So I will stick Jayce outside of the top tier while Jax goes into the top tier.

Some kind of elemental or wind spirit or something, she looks human enough that the difference probably doesn't matter too much. Her forecast skin is pretty amusing, and her Star Guardian skin is actually really awesome looking. I'm guessing this is part of a set where they did a few others to look like Mahou Shoujo but if there have been any others I missed them so far. Whoops.

the legacy skins like hextech and bewitching look legitimately great too. honestly I think Janna is largely carried by her skins. her base concept is definitely more on the unique end of what we've seen so far, but her design itself is fairly boring... up to the point where you start to notice she has a ton of awesome skins.

that's good enough for an overall pretty high placement.

Jarvan IV


Jarvan the Fourth is apparently some important dude from Demacia, which is a word I know because seomeone else said it in this topic. Apparently he has the ability to throw his flag at stuff and cause damage to it. George Washington would be proud.

He's basically an armor dude with a lance, which is pretty cool, I guess. His skins are basically just him in other armor dude armors.. which is... meh... whatever. The Dark Star one is actually legitimately cool though. He looks like he could be some kind of cosmic villain from a comic book line.

Overall, whatever. And apparently that's good enough to place him above a lot of other characters.

I lost against a barnes priest yesterday who was actually playing at least 4 different minions in his deck, but drew barnes on curve, played him on curve, and got exactly y'shaarj in spite of the fact that he included other minions and reduced his chance of getting y'shaarj

that felt pretty bad

I know he had more minions because the y'shaarj was summoning stuff like mountain giant and sylvanas

worst part is that it was still a really close game and I know for certain I would have run over his shitty deck if he hadn't highrolled to such an extreme.

my favorite Cure song is Just Like Heaven, and I would say I probably like Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me more overall.

Disintegration is really good, though, especially the live version of the album. I actually had a chance to go see The Cure a few years ago and they put on a pretty good show... but I really wish I could have seen them back then. I think it would have been more energetic and I mostly care about their older material which is now a smaller portion of their total library.

I like Prayers for Rain and Fascination Street on Disintegration, but I like most of the songs, so I'm not sure if I could say those are my favorite or anything.

I was not put under but I cannot remember anything from the procedure or even the trip there. to be fair I have a LOT of dental anxiety and I told my dentist this ahead of time. he gave me some really strong stuff and told me to take it at least an hour before even coming. so... yeah. gonna have to say sorry to brother prof on this one, I don't really see anything particularly special here that would put her above the rest of the generic humans cast. it's true that in theory I like female characters who are tall, and who are stronger, but in practice there's always certain bits of context that can affect my opinions on character design.

it's worth noting that when I say strong I also mean stuff like magic, having top tier fighting skills, etc. and not just physically "strong." although raw strength is pretty cool too, there's honestly a point at which characters become a bit too muscular looking that starts to detract from their design for me. I think I mentioned this in one of the earlier generic action dude write ups. anyway, I do think Illaoi is sort of past that line, although I will say her ingame sprite looks a lot better to me than her splash arts.

also maybe I'm just an evil sexist or something but I do definitely prefer more feminine traits and she doesn't seem to have as many of those. honestly her appearance is really inconsistent between her splash art, character sprite, and fan arts... and I think it kinda shows that a lot of fans also prefer to draw her slightly more feminine than her canon design. I guess the world is just not ready for the kraken priestess even in 2018....

the resistance skin looks cool as hell though, I chose that one to post for the art in this topic.

another generic human fighter, she's a melee fighter who enhances her abilities with magic. hey, we just talked about this a few entries ago! guess it's not as rare in league as in some other settings. she's kind of pretty but doesn't stand out in any particular way that would cause me to rate her as high as, say, caitlyn.

placement: a sort of ahri or camille type that I don't particularly care about, but is somewhat visually appealing. I like her better than ahri but probably less than camille (since camille is more nonhuman)

I once again went ahead and used my favorite splash art here even though it's not much like her basic design at all. if she actually was a fairy or something she'd be a lot cooler...

just your average big tree dude. not really terrible or amazing. I get the impression that literally no one cares about this guy, mostly because he only has two splash arts and not a lot of other materials listed on the wiki. didn't see much fan art of him either so I wouldn't be surprised if people generally forget about him.

of course this is all speculation. anyway as someone who does like to use more CC type abilities I can honestly say the main reason is because I'm really bad at aiming. the idea of having to aim a skillshot at an opponent and hit them with it in order to root them sort of goes against the entire point of playing a control character, at least for me.

I bumped his placement a bit because of the dance, but now I'm wondering if every champ has one?

(funny enough he landed right next to Irelia for now)

I have all four removed at once and was pretty messed up for like 2 days afterwards. I barely remember that time period. apparently one of them was lodged partially into my cheek and they had to remove more tissue than expected, so I was also losing a lot of blood after the operation and had to go back to the doctor or emergency room.

after like day 3, when I started to actually be aware and remember things again, I was in severe pain for a while afterwards. the pain was mostly in the area with the excised tissue but all of them did hurt to some extent. being on painkillers pretty much constantly helped a bit with that.

He looks like an action hero from an 80's movie which is... kinda cool, I guess! Honestly despite me giving more points for badass male characters over weaklings, I would say this trope isn't one that really stands out to me too much. There's still a few I will rank him over, but if we start seeing more actual good characters I would see him and all of them moved further down the list as we go.

His skins are much better than his default design, I'll give him that much.

THE SHADOW OF WAR. Now this is a cool looking monster. Honestly when I just saw Fiddlesticks face I thought he would look something more like this. So all of those dashed expectations toward Fiddlesticks when I saw his real design, have all been transplanted to Hecarim and boosted his score even further.

Not only that, but I read a bit about his playstyle and it does sound pretty fun. He's a melee fighter who can cleave and create Aoe damage around himself, which is good for me because I stuck at aiming. On top of that he seems to have some kind of charge which is always satisfying as well. Nothing more awesome than charging down some puny human and banishing them as they try to flee.

The combination of melee and magic is something that seems like it would make a lot of sense but gets underutilized quite a lot, so the designers get some credit for that as well. I mean, really, using magic would make your melee fighting abilities so much more ridiculous. In a world where magic exists there's literally no reason not to enhance your melee with some magic... unless you are super invested in getting immediately decimated by the guy who enchanted his sword to weigh nothing and pierce through anything.

6-1 now. geosculpter yip is a pretty cool guy in arena. this was the first chance I actually got to play him since drafting the deck. it's great because ideally he comes down late in the game when your opponent has like 1 card left... then it's like, they have no way to deal with an 8 health minion that generates infinite value, so they just concede right away, I guess.

I really like the direction they're going with warlock discard.

"discard your lowest cost card" is just so much more controllable. You never discard Gul'Dan, and if there's something you absolutely can't discard, just play it first; it's cheap you might even be able to play both in the same turn.

Just way less RNG; I'll have to see how it plays, but at first glance I really hope this is how they do discard from now on.

I was really surprised to see that, honestly. people have said for a long time that they would probably never do targeted discards because the discard mechanic is based entirely around the idea that the chosen card is random. once you're able to choose which card is being discarded, all of the discard related cards become MUCH stronger. I swear I even remember blizzard related folks saying this on the reddit when asked in the past.

guess they changed their minds or at least decided it was fine to do it, even if it will make a bunch of cards stronger in a way that can't easily be predicted.

well at least we can expect timely nerfs within about 4 months after this card is printed...

played a bit of arena and had a lot more fun at least. drafted warrior, didn't even get offered single supercollider but whatever. the mere threat of the card existing forces my opponents to play around it constantly.

you can definitely "feel" that warrior is the best class in arena right now; I'm getting a LOT of BM from other players, sometimes as soon as the match starts. because of people stalling out turns as much as possible I had to stop, since I'm heading to work soon, but I got up to 5-1 already and I haven't really had any close matches except the one I lost.

hearthstone is that one game that I always enjoy for like 40 minutes when I decide to come back to it, and then it becomes miserable

lmao that is pretty amusing but even seeing that I feel like I ranked him about where I would normally. maybe swap him with Braum but I'm not sure if I'll actually try to refine the list at any point; if I end up doing that it's possible I end up continuing to shift things infinitely and never being satisfied which would really slow down the rankings.

I legitimately could not tell you the difference between Garen and the other big sword dude with short brown hair. I think his name was Darius? only noteworthy thing about this guy are his ridiculous starcraft marine shoulder pads. okay, those are funny enough to put him ahead of darius at least.
