In that case, thank goodness for Kindred Spirits On the Roof. Again. Seriously, that's still the best yuri anything, IMO.

Meanwhile, I am watching people fight about the rape scenes from Goblin Slayer, and all I can think is that, y'know, we all knew that stuff was going to be in there when the anime adaptation was announced. How is it still shocking, then? It's like looking at a sign that says "There is FIRE in this room!" and opening the door and going, "Holy shit, there's fire in here!"

Goblin Slayer is climbing to the top of my queue. I might be more interested in Bloom Into You if it had not been snapped up by Hidive ... and if I did not keep running into fans who ragequit the manga despite initially enjoying it. That is not a good sign of things to come.

Adapting to the demands of a changing culture. Take the example from this topic. The hikikomori (shut-in) phenomenon in Japan is the result of people disengaging from ... practically everything. They do not hold jobs. They do not date. They stay in their rooms and play video games while their parents, aside from leaving food at the door, try to save face by pretending they do not exist. There are entire books on this subject.

Dating in Japan, in particular, is the result of increasingly mismatched expectations. It used to be expected that a woman, once she is married, would stop working and become a stay-at-home wife and mother. In a culture that expects a man to basically work himself to death, this makes home into a sanctuary where a man can expect to be loved and cared for as gratitude for being a provider. ... In the present, the work-to-death (karoshi) culture remains despite a crumbling job market, but most women in Japan now prefer to be in the work force, and they do not buy into the idea of getting married and staying at home -- that, and they prefer to marry a man with a stable job. Those stable jobs are becoming increasingly rare. On the other side, men in Japan have not changed their expectations. They still want a stay-at-home wife and mother.

The mismatch creates what is increasingly called the mendoukusai (too much trouble) attitude. Growing numbers of young people in Japan do not bother with dating because each side expects things from the other that they are not willing to give. So, since dating is 'too much trouble', they do not bother, and a culture of escapism (see: anime / manga and video games) occupies them instead.

As far as the U.S. is concerned, I can see a similar state of affairs being the end result of the Social Justice movement. If any overture towards dating -- or even public interaction -- runs the risk of life-ruining accusations of sexual harassment, whether unfounded or not, it makes more sense to treat the whole thing as 'too much trouble' and just sit down and play video games, rather than try to relearn the rules of social interaction. A lot of the young guys I work with already have this attitude.

A low cost of living is why I live where I live (southwest Ohio) despite this region being equally as bad as the South in several respects (e.g. the opioid epidemic, countless foreclosed homes, endemic racism, etc.). ... To be honest, it feels like Urban America and Rural America might as well be two separate countries, since they have so little in common now, and since it is so hard to move from one to the other.

Once upon a time, Gohan was supposed to be the successor to his father as the strongest character in the Dragon Ball universe, but, after the Cell Saga, the series dropped that and had him become a husband and father instead. Which Goku was able to do while still being a fighter. ... Then again, Goku was never exactly a model husband or father.

I have almost zero skill in the kitchen as it is (see: losing most of my sense of smell when I caught myself on fire trying to fry up tofu with too much oil and too much tofu at one time), but the time involved in prepping, cooking, and clean-up can be prohibitive, especially if every member of the household works full-time and comes home completely drained. The missus and I still cook (i.e. she cooks and I clean to avoid disasters like the aforementioned), but it is almost never anything complicated. Time is a valuable resource.

Theoretically adapted from the first game, the PSP title that the U.S. did not get, but all I have looked up suggests that the anime has almost nothing to do with that (like the Akiba's Trip anime, as I said).

Pretty much the entire Colin Baker run (1984-86), and the Clara nonsense (2012-15). Also the 1996 movie pissed off a bunch of fans.

Eh, I can't get too mad at either the Sixth or Eighth Doctors. What their TV shows (or TV movie) lacked, they more than made up in the quality of their audio dramas.

Clara really made me switch off, though, and I'm usually very fond of Peter Capaldi. The Thick of It is quite possibly my favorite British TV show.

This is true for me, too. I prefer the Big Finish audio dramas, but I thought the show was fantastic up through the end of the Tenth Doctor era.

I started playing Final fantasy Tactics Advance. It's pretty good.

I do not enjoy that game to the same degree as the PS1 original, but ... I still piled ninety-eight hours into it because I had a blast building my characters and their Jobs.

This is good news! White Album 2 is one of those VNs I wish would get localized. Granted, the anime adaptation can only do so much, but I still enjoyed what little of the story that showed me. Great stuff.

I agree that the high school / teenager thing is annoying, especially now that anime creators are well aware that the demographics that actually spend money on merch are not in high school.

Moribito got localized in the U.S. during the Great Recession (i.e. at the time of the Great DVD Market Crash), but before the Age of Streaming Video, and the rights belong to Media Blasters, which has virtually no money for marketing, so ... basically a perfect storm of things setting it up to fail. Which is a shame, because it is a great series.

Yeeeeeeah... that one made me feel REALLY uncomfortable and vulnerable, but I just couldn't stop playing until I finished it despise the nausea and several nights without being able to sleep at all, and the worst part is that I lost my save before getting all endings... I have to play it again someday, once I get enough courage.

Worth it, IMO, but the prequel / sequel (Book of Shadows) was even harder to play for the same reasons, just to forewarn you. ... Blood Drive, not so much.

But the game that literally taught me THE borderline of what I could and couldn't endure was Chaos;Head. Got the true ending and had absolute zero will to get the rest. I felt so sick at times that I skipped a couple of meals. Guess I'm kind of weak to gore and stuff like that...

Saw the (... mediocre) anime, managed to play a little of the VN, but it has no legit release outside Japan, so I have been jonesing to play it in full for quite a while.

I enjoyed the original Kid Icarus (because of its difficulty and multiple endings ... and Palutena, not going to lie), and I also enjoy Uprising, though I feel that game tried to do too many different things at the same time. Ambitious, but not for everybody.

I had to put down Corpse Party for a little while after certain parts, but I always picked it back up again.

I put down Final Fantasy XIII because it was shit. Not disturbing or offensive. Just shit. Sold that one back to the store.

There is truth in this, I think. I have no issues with my PS1 games because I still have a pretty good CRT on which to play them, but I have tried playing them on one of the HDTVs, and they look awful. Early polygons do not age well.
