It has a Harry Potter-esque look, an imaginative world, a revenge story, a female protagonist who appears to be a strong and engaging character (as opposed to one that is over-politicized), and the Lord of the Rings director at the helm.

It had all the credentials to be the next big franchise.

I thought for certain that Mortal Engines would be the big movie of the season and that the animated Spider-Man movie would become a cult film that a small contingent of fans heralded as the greatest. Kinda like how people say that Mask of the Phantasm was the best Batman movie.

I'm happy that Miles Morales is getting exposure, but I worry about what the success of an animated superhero movie may mean in the future. I'd hate for live action superhero movies to become dreary realistic movies while all of the fun stuff gets crammed into animated movies.

I'm a bit disappointed about Mortal Engines too. While it didn't look like my cup of tea, I was really thinking it'd be the next big thing. Just from the trailer alone, the protagonist looks like she has a lot of presence to her.

Only Spielberg's fantasy/adventure films became shit. His dramas are still top notch.

I think I lost interest when they put Spider-Man back in high school and made a bunch of unnecessary changes to his supporting cast. Say what you want to, Michelle is that universe's version of Mary Jane Watson until the real deal shows up.

Jasmine is hot. There is a severe lack of midriff, but she's still very easy on the eyes. That's what matters most.

Smith's Genie doesn't bother me. He looks ridiculous, but I'd already lost interest in this movie when they gave Jasmine a white fiancee. I don't need a designated character to identify with; especially when his only purpose is to lose the girl to the protagonist. Aladdin's one of the most relatable characters in any Disney movie. I'm not going to have Hollywood turn it into a race issue and tell me that I'm to identify with some cuckolded prince instead of the hero.

One positive thing about the current WWE product being trash is that it's given me a chance to go back and watch matches that I might not have seen. They might be WCW matches. They might be WWF matches. They might be matches from the 80s, 70s, or 60s. They may come from companies I've never heard of or companies of I've heard of only in passing.

But, whatever the case, I'll take them over the current WWE. And that's more about my general disgust with Vince McMahon and the direction he's gone with things than it is about the current product. I really couldn't care less what takes place on WWE programming. I simply want there to be a competitor and I don't care where they come from or what they have to sell. At least odds are better than even that they will not have hosted a private wrestling show for the murderous royal family of Saudi Arabia.

Mandarin is a pretty racist name. That's the part of the character that needs to change.

If you had a Japanese villain named the Shogunate, you could change him from a masked shogun to a man in a business suit. You could make him blue skinned. It wouldn't matter. As long as he had that name, he'd feel like he was anti-Japanese in his creation. That's the problem Mandarin faces.

Even a white guy named Mandarin would be a bad idea. So it's odd to me that the film threw away the baby and kept the afterbirth. If they could change the names of Miss Marvel and Invisible Girl, why not change the blatantly racist title?

Eh, it doesn't look that bad to me. Among characters like Groot, Rocket, Ant-Man, Squirrel Girl, Yondu, Mantis, Ultron, Vision, etc., Rhino would be in good company.

The way I see it, he could battle Spider-Man in a fight lasting about a minute and a half and played serious rather than for comedy. Then, we could relent a little and allow the fight to end in a joke where Rhino gets his horn stuck in a heavy object or goes tumbling off the side of a bridge.

And if the actor who plays Rhino does a good job, we could bring him back in a subsequent movie to trade punches with a big guy like Hulk or Drax.

What's so bad about a big guy with a horn? If they won't allow it to be a costume, just make him a mutation. There's nothing wrong with the rhino as a concept.

I think that Rhino being a guy in a robot suit is pretty much mandatory if you don't want him to be utterly ridiculous in live action. Probably not exactly what ASM gave us, but something along those lines.

Traditional RPGs collectively offer fantastic characters and world building, but have awful gameplay mechanics.

Mortal Kombat was more fun when it was Enter the Dragon with mystical elements. Mad props to them for finding their voice in the second game and rolling with it for all these years, but the first game is the best in terms of general atmosphere.

There's no excuse for GTA to not have a female protagonist by this point.

Child heroes are ridiculous and Link is no exception. It's okay to start out with him as a kid, but he shouldn't be defeating Ganon if he's 12. Furthermore, if it doesn't belong in a Tolkien world, it doesn't belong in a Legend of Zelda game except in moments of levity. You can have a frog playing a harmonica, but don't put Link on a train or a motorcycle unless he's in a crossover game.

The new Tomb Raider games should be their own thing instead of using the Tomb Raider license. Lara Croft is a fun (and shapely) adventurer, not a horror movie survivor.

The modern Ninja Gaiden games make Ryu look like Ninja Batman and Irene looks like a porn star.
