My only childhood knowledge of Mega Man was playing the first one on NES (and it was Rock Man, too)
It was one of my favorite games on the NES, together with Super Mario Bros and Little Samson

Years later when I had Internet I started messing around with GBA roms and tried playing them on order. Mega Man Battle Network was the third ROM behind Super Mario Bros Advance and F-Zero
I didn't know it at that time but after I saw Fire Man I started thinking how it's similar to the game I loved a few years ago and researched it
Then I fell in love with the series all over again, and it's currently my second-favorite franchise behind Pokemon

And this is without even childhood nostalgia for MM2 or MMX
