Mallow's a cool character! He has a lot of personality, he has a fun character arc, he plays well with the game's comedy stylings, and overall I just feel his impact a lot.

No offense to people who are excited to have him in Smash but I've always found Geno to be a boring character - like, kind of the most boring aspect of SMRPG in general really

He just... doesn't do much? I LOVE the forest segment of the game and everything that comes with it, including Geno, but after that he's kinda whatever. He's just kind of a stoic cool guy I guess, he doesn't really do that much. I always liked Mallow way more.

There's tons of great small, niche fanbases for things, but if they ever blew up and had hundreds of thousands of fans you bet your ass it would immediately become noxious

A fanbase can't be large, active, and passionate without also being abhorrent to a large section of people, including people who are fans of that very thing. It just doesn't work that way. It's human nature to be annoying and to be annoyed. There is no model fanbase that isn't terrible except for things that are either quite niche or largely defunct. Anything you could name simply isn't thriving enough to piss you off.

Two random thoughts from beginning my replay of E2-5:

- It's really weird seeing Kay know about the Gourdy photo "from two or three years ago" off the top of her head

- John Marsh is the most random character to have a really cool theme

Isaac, Geno, and Banjo all have kind of a "defunct late 90's/early 00's character" vibe so maybe they'll all get announced in one go

it's hard for me to imagine Chorus Kids or Mach Rider getting like, their own trailer, but who knows

I've been wondering the same thing. I thought they said they were going to reveal every character before the game's release so I'm kinda curious how they're gonna get all these out there.

The more I look at it the more I have to concede that it really must be real

So... yeah, that's interesting. Isaac, Geno, and B-K are all pretty big reveals and I'm surprised there's that many left to show. Chorus Kids and Mach Rider less likely to get the fanbase really energized so makes sense that they wouldn't be the stars of a direct.

Very excited to get rhythm heaven representation in but I've always felt lukewarm about the chorus kids as a way to do that. We'll see i guess.

Banjo and Kazooie is cool as hell.

Mach Rider makes sense to me because they always have an out of left field character that pays homage to really old nintendo (G&W, ROB, Duck Hunt). Though if I were making a fake leak I would include someone like that for that reason

the fact that it's "too good to be true" might not mean anything, given that nintendo's whole marketing strategy seems to be giving us the "too good to be true" smash that we always wanted, which is why they included every character from the series

Yeah, I'm really not convinced about the growth thing, but that Camelot-style screenshot has had me convinced Isaac is in ever since I saw it. That seemed like a deliberate tease to me.

But for someone to have actually been armed during that shooting, for someone to have been able to stop the shooter... for them to just put their gun away like that? So much for "good guy with a gun" stopping a "bad guy with a gun".

I'm abusing your marquee rule pretty hard for Wazzu/Stanford. This line has moved down from your 56 to 53.5, and I agree with this move - I think that coming off an emotional win at home over Oregon the Cougs are in for a letdown game here and games at Stanford just have a tendency to be ugly, so that's going to result in a bizarrely low scoring output. Wouldn't be surprised if this is just like an ugly ass 20-7 game or something. (I think Stanford is going to win this a week after I took Wazzu in the pleaser, by the way)

As for the others, idk. Wisconsin's games are a lot more high scoring this year than I'm used to but I am still conditioned to believe that Wisconsin traveling into Northwestern is going to result in some super boring shit that absolutely nobody wants to watch. As for Clemson I think there's a couple different ways this goes over; either Clemson just goes ahead and scores like 48 by themselves, or it turns out that people are actually way over optimstic about Clemson's defense (which has played extremely well this season) and this turns into a shootout for them on the road. The 49.5 line seemed very low to me.

I know absolutely nothing about betting over/unders, so this is a fucking crapshoot.

Man, I forgot how tough the pleaser level is. And there may be nothing more painful than seeing an underdog you think stands a chance be listed at "+7.5" because since a push isn't sufficient and there are no ties in this sport, +8 is functionally identical to +6.5 on this level. Though I did still end up going with a 7-point underdog.

Best Picture has been a pertty good indicator of what movies to not watch in recent times. So none.

I don't normally watch a lot of Oscar-nominated movies, but last year I saw Get Out, The Shape of Water, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and I LOVED all of them, so I can't agree with this (although ultimately the least of the three won imo, shape of water was fantastic but the other two were even better)

It doesn't matter if being gay is a choice or not. "They can't change!" is kind of suggesting there's something that needs to be changed. That there's something wrong. When there's nothing wrong. Not just because they were born that way (appeal to nature) but because there's nothing wrong with it period.

Can you just admit you're being silly instead of trying to find new and inventive ways to be outraged?
