I thought season 2 of Love Live had as much drama as season 1 did, and it was also drama I liked significantly less than the stuff from season 1.

I'd agree that it had drama but I thought it was significantly improved from the drama in S1.

That said, Love Live Sunshine is top tier idol anime because what little drama it has is the actual good kind of drama. EDIT: Okay there's actually one dumb part but at least it's over quick.

I don't think I'll keep up the habit of commenting on Hunter x Hunter every day but I'm focusing on it for a bit right now so I'm actually watching enough episodes in a row to have things to say. Spoilers for up to episode 80.

Man, things are getting dark, starting with those poor kids getting killed and with no signs of stopping. These chimera ants do not fuck around. Still, I get that the queen is creating weird animal monsters based off different genes, but... where are the clothes coming from? The alligator has a karate shirt, the chameleon has a track suit, another has a cross necklace. The murderous koala has an adorable little business suit. Was it born with it or did they find a tiny suit that someone on the island owned for some reason and they decided to give it to the cute koala? I have so many important questions about this.

Oh, hey, it's Ponzu! I liked Ponzu in the exam arc so it's nice to see her ag-... oh. Well, bye Ponzu. Jeez, if the ants eat that bow dude and learn nen this is going to become an international catastrophe. I'm sad that I'm trying to work my sleep schedule back so I can't watch more right now. This arc has been amazing so far and I've barely started it.

EDIT: One final comment but man, Kite's team has some of the dumbest names ever. I mean, Stick Dinner?

Spoilers for up to Hunter x Hunter episode 71. Man, that was a hype-ass dodgeball game! When the guy who summoned Nen beasts got taken out and they said his remaining beast could come back in if he recovered, I was really hoping his gorilla would return to be the hero in the end. I mean, just imagine it, they've all been hit and the ball is about to hit the ground, all hope is lost... and then a big dumb gorilla materializes out of thin air and catches it. It would've been great. Still, I guess Hisoka pulling a cool move to win even though he didn't have to was neat enough.

Anyway, I'm not a huge fan of Bomber since he seems too stereotypically evil, but I'm enjoying this arc so far. Bisky is the best, and the way they're using game mechanics has been really interesting. I liked the luck dice with a 1/20 chance of death.

I finished Yona of the Dawn. I thought it was good for the most part but I had too many issues with it for it to really become a favorite. Usually I'm a fan of comedic moments in the style YotD used (dropping to simplified art-styles and the like) but this ran into the same problem The Ancient Magus' Bride did with that same gag style. I felt it often clashed with the serious tone of the surrounding scene and wound up dragging it down instead of being funny. Like, moments after being ambushed by an overwhelming force isn't the time for a chibi gag joke when the subsequent battle is going to be deadly serious.

Still, that was a minor complaint overall. My real issue was that the story didn't get as far as I wanted it to. This feels like something that I could wind up liking a lot more if it gets a second season but I'm not sure how likely that is. Like, the whole season was one long recruitment mission and it ended as soon as it seemed like it would finally get back to setting the groundwork for overthrowing Su-won. I wanted to see Su-won get murdered, damn it. Just marry the princess and become king that way you idiot, no amount of trying to make him seem competent or cute after murdering his king for no reason is going to make me like him.

In conclusion, Yona of the Dawn was good, but in terms of fantasy settings starring a girl with red hair, I enjoyed Snow White with the Red Hair a lot more.

Seeing airing rankings also reminds me, I watched the first episode of Muhyo & Roji's Bureau of Supernatural Investigation (because clearly I wasn't watching enough things already) so I should post comments on that since I did for every other first episode this season. Honestly, my opinion of it is kind of weird. It felt childish, especially in terms of the way characters reacted to things and the morality of the plot's resolution, but at the same time the plot of that episode was shockingly dark and not suited for children at all. The fact that it tried to tackle something serious and did so in such a childish way honestly left me feeling angry for some reason. I hope this is just a case of the first episode being bad and future ones will improve.

Also, one thing I've realized this season is that there's very little middle ground in quality for me. There are twelve shows I would drop if I were the kind of person to drop things, fourteen I'm consistently excited for, and only two that are roughly in the middle.

My problem was mostly with how high their power levels were in comparison to the rest of the setting, and to be fair I thought that got better by the end (I'm done that arc now, on episode 63). As characters I think everyone in the Troupe is at least decent. The girl with the vacuum cleaner is the best of them.
