The battles are your typical standard Dragon Quest Fair. People complain that they are easy, so it's recommended that if you want a modicum of challenge out of the battles, you turn on tougher monsters in the Draconian settings. I turned on 'weak mobs give no XP' as well, to force me to seek out tougher Monsters to XP on. Shit will rock you on this setting.

Ugh, trying to make these 3* daggers for Erik at the forge. I wouldn't mind so much if they didn't require Ice Crystals and they weren't a major pain in the ass to get.

I save before using the forge. So far, I was able to +3 the 1st sword you can synth at the forge.

Long story short, my roommate attempted to change his payment option on a pre-order of his to make sure that his credit card would work for Spider-Man when it released. Turns out Amazon didn't like that for whatever reason, so they just straight up canceled the entire order. A couple of hours of back and forth with customer service agents, and an elevation or two later to a supervisor, and they just straight up gave him a credit for the discounts that he would have had on that entire order - $70. He chose to have it apply to the item that was next to ship, which happened to be DQXI. So, Amazon is only charging me $5, and my roommate and I will settle balances with rent payments.

Also, Amazon Prime sucks now, and shipping from them is a goddamn nightmare where I am. I still haven't got Shenmue 1+2 yet, and the game released on the 21st. They only shipped it on the 28th. Interestingly enough, Best Buy doesn't have that problem. I'm going to be buying more of my games locally, looks like.

Its traditional to a fault. It may look beautiful and the voice acting is a worthwhile addition, but overall Dragon Quest XI does nothing to push the JRPG genre forward. Its a shame, as despite Square pushing XI as its big Western RPG this is a game thats incredibly hard to recommend to a new audience.

This isnt the game for everyone. Dragon Quest 11 is unabashedly a traditional JRPG. For some, the slower pacing and linear experience arent going to be appealing. However, for those who have fallen in love with the genre, and grew up adoring Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, and others, this game is the ultimate expression of the traditional JRPG.

Strange how a "60" review and "90" review are pretty much the same thing, huh?

Dragon Quest is for Dragon Quest fans. It doesn't push the envelope because that's not what Dragon Quest is or does. The first reviewer sounds like he's up his own ass.
