In any creative endeavor you either persevere through the hard times and ultimately succeed in creating a finished product or you take the easier option and quit when it gets tough. If you don't have the drive to achieve what you want, or the perseverance to not simply quit when things get tough, then the other things don't really matter so much. So many people make plans for things they want to do with life but then come up with excuses as to why they didn't happen but nine times out of ten it's because they either didn't try hard enough and it was easier to find a reason to quit than keep fighting through the hard periods. |

But if you're writing with ambitions of professional progress (getting an agent, getting published, etc) I would recommend only writing about things you know or have extensively researched, as you will always have competition that are going to have work that will come across that little bit more polished otherwise. |

Certainly in the present day a lot of big western democracies are very similar in the broad details. But you only need to go as far back as say the 1960s and there are big differences. America, for example, still has substantial racial segregation that paints a very different picture to 1960s Britain. |
