| Vita_Aeterna 05/18/18 5:30:57 PM #26 | I watch most anime in Japanese, especially if they're set in Japan and depict Japanese society, life, people etc. It's distracting hearing what are seemingly Japanese people people speak English with American accents. Another problem is that the Japanese language simply has its own style and tone. Certain expressions sound completely fucked if translated into English. It's incredibly repulsive when people speak English in weird high pitched low voices. Another thing is that since most of us here aren't Japanese speakers, we can't really judge voice-acting in Japanese--to us it all seems fine. The over-the-top voice acting seems ok, because they match the cartoony expressions on screen. Even in Western cartoons, the way people talk and express things are so oddly distinct from East Asian cartoons. Baccano, Spice and Wolf and some Ghibli films have fitting voice acting in English though. --- "Bear Island knows no king but the King in the North, whose name is STARK." |
