Testimony, most notably. Collecting testimony from a recently-traumatized victim is a delicate process, and police often don't do it properly, resulting in the loss of key details that could have resulted in a conviction.

What do they "not do properly"? I'm not aware of them collecting testimony differently in sexual assault cases.

adjl posted...
The prevailing attitude of "this is going to be hard to prove" also discourages many victims from reporting in the first place, even in cases where there is physical evidence to be collected.

So because people don't find the facts consoling, that's the fault of law enforcement? You probably shouldn't push for punishing others if you haven't got a good way of proving it, you'll only be wasting people's time. This is not different in sexual assault cases.

adjl posted...
It is actually the job of law enforcement to listen and believe.

They're actually supposed to believe the accused is innocent, which is directly in conflict with believing the accuser.

adjl posted...
A certain degree of judgement is important to avoid wasting resources on obviously frivolous cases, but for somebody with no history of making false reports and no obvious psychosis (or other mental condition that would be very likely to result in blatant fabrications), a genuine effort should be made to take their claims seriously and investigate them to the fullest possible extent, whatever those claims are.

A genuine effort should be made in all accusations regardless of prior history or mental illness. And it is.

adjl posted...
As much as people like to cite false sexual assault accusations as being a major problem, they aren't actually all that common, almost always fit a well-established pattern consistent with the behaviour of pathological liars, and virtually never result in an actual conviction. They're nowhere near a significant enough issue to affect how readily sexual assault claims are taken seriously, even in cases where concrete proof isn't immediately available.

That's irrelevant, we do not live in a society where your word is enough alone to punish anybody for anything. You will need proof and if you do not have it then you need to accept that nobody can help you get revenge in good conscience.

Here you are complaining on the internet instead of fixing your country - you really don't have any right to complain about it, because it's obviously your fault to begin with, at least according to what you've just said.

I'm not sure you know what the term "white supremacist" means, if you think that it involves a guilt complex.

Sure, "White Guilt" is an actual thing, and yes, it's far more common on the left than the right, but it's very much a separate beast than "White Supremacy" and to confuse the two is to muddy the issues.

To say white people are inherently better off is to say that white people are superior, particularly when citing an international stage where Mexicans would have Mexican privilege in Mexico.

Not at all. They still can't justify leaving because their shithole has gained a little more poop recently, they only get to leave when a crisis takes place and they can seek refuge.

While they are not to blame for the risk increasing (don't put words in my mouth), they are to blame for not lowering it.

It's not unreasonable, but by the same token it's not unreasonable to say "They may be at risk of dying if we don't let them in, but if we let them in we may actually endangering our own so we best not let them in.".

It's also not unreasonable for them to say "I'm probably going to die if I stay here, but I'm going to fight the cartel with my suffering neighbours to chase a better chance for my kids," even if that chance also isn't that great.

Except that sexual assaults are notoriously under-investigated. Sure, once you get into court, the burden of proof is applied reasonably, but if the facts haven't been properly collected in the first place, you're not going to end up with a verdict that reflects the facts.

A sexual assault case isn't going to have much evidence to begin with, so unless you feel you actually have evidence, I don't know why you would seek prosecution. Regardless of how you have been wronged, it's not the job of the law to listen and believe.

So please, explain to me what would be not "properly collected" evidence in a case which lacks much to find in the first place. If you believe evidence wasn't collected then you must know it exists yet not present it.

Not that accepting empirical reality like that should really be worth remarking on, but you do seem to be having some trouble with the concept.

That is true but also not the US's responsibility.

They are still capable of reducing their risk by taking action as a group, but if this becomes too difficult then the world can reasonably recognise Mexico as a place people need to seek refuge from. If this occurs then Mexicans can cross and apply for refugee status legitimately.

There are literally towns in Mexico that have been taken over by drug cartels within the past few years, who are quite happy to brutally murder people to scare the rest of the town into compliance. It has absolutely risen by a significant degree. Pay attention.

Oh well my city has had a steep rise in acid attacks in the last few years, hold on while I immigrate to Japan to escape my city's problems.

adjl posted...
As in, the cartels running the town wanted to use the kid as a drug mule and the parents opted to run away instead of complying or saying no and being murdered for doing so. Not "my kid's dealing drugs I'd better move him to a better environment." My apologies, I didn't realize you were so ignorant of the situation in Mexico as to be unable to figure out what I meant. I hope this clarifies it for you.

Are you really so ignorant as to flirt with the issue but not see it? Both acts occur and we can't filter them apart if they don't go through the immigration process. Some Mexicans suffering at home is not justification to bring other people to the US who will make citizens suffer in their home.

adjl posted...
What power do you think ordinary citizens have to clean up Mexico's drug scene?

Ordinary people voted in Trump, ordinary people started the cartels, ordinary people became vigilantes to hunt down the cartels in Mexico.

The people of Mexico made Mexico a cartel, so the people of Mexico can make it something else.

If Mexico wants America's help then it can ask for that, but it can't give up and sneak in to safety.

Consistently arriving at the correct verdict, perhaps? "Reliable" does not in any way imply false positives on its own.

Reliable implies consistency to some degree and you don't even know if their verdicts are wrong.

Their job is to examine the facts and decide if the evidence is sufficient to determine guilt, this is no different in cases of sexual assault and so you cant claim a discrepancy with sexual assault cases.

And they take the legal route in.

As for tossing people out, you need somewhere to send them. Illegal immigrants have a home country.

Even Obama was barely a liberal as a president, but according to a lot of conservatives he was further left than Jimmy Carter

Well, according to the left, anyone to the right of Karl Marx is a Nazi, so...

Marxists and Nazis are on the same side of the authoritarian axis

Regardless, that's a different axis. You don't argue with a non-contradictory statement.

The opposite of immigration is emigration, and they are exiting by way of a port.

It does actually

Unless you really think they should just risk their families life while waiting for the ok to come on over.

I think they shouldn't risk their lives sneaking with smugglers. If it's a no-win game then they may as well take the proper channels.

I prefer warm water but most sinks dont heat up that fast and I'm not about to stand around and wait 15 to 30 seconds to wash my hands

Do you live in a third world country where somebody boils a kettle to give you warm water?

I live in America. Used sinks in houses and publically in many different places. Unless the sink has been used recently and the water has been heated prior, sinks dont just immediately shoot out hot water. That's not how water heaters work

Not in your third world country. It's like 5 seconds tops here, same deal in Japan.

On the other hand, they also didn't realize that anyone would have a problem with always-on online connectivity, or that a lot of people would prefer physical media over digital download.

Not "on the other hand".

They knew people like having space to store their stuff and know that forcing people on to something for no benefit is not for them. This is a management issue, not software engineers.

Typically an event or characteristic justifies hentai, frogs aren't typical fetish fuel.

Well she's a human with frog like features so not exactly the same.

Being human isn't motivation enough to make hentai.

Arguably, that was what hurt the Xbox One pre-release - the engineers packed in features and ideas that they thought were great

Software engineers didn't think forcing connect to check who's watching films was great.
