France has been doing it longer than we have, and does it aggressively even when we don't want them to, as I'm sure you know

the US is currently the biggest aggressor, but that doesn't mean Britain or France is off the hook. far from it.

difference in opinion over what politics is meant to address I guess

do you seriously think the difficulty for impoverished nations in resisting the US military comes from the ideology of their leaders? because, objectively, that is not the reason.

anyway even if we do interfere in international politics, it doesn't make sense to say that is the main obstacle facing leftist regimes when covert politicking happens in every system regardless of ideology

it's generally not done by anyone else to the same extent that the US does it though

or if that is the main obstacle then leftism is an incredibly fragile political program which is problematic

it's not the political program that's the problem. the US has the largest, most well-funded military in history, while most countries that elect socialist leaders have been relatively poor and under-developed on account of having their resources stripped (which, FYI, is largely how the currently wealthy countries became wealthy in the first place)

im a liberal but this simply isn't true

conservatives do this but we don't (as a whole)

I wasn't talking about liberals but ok

any leftists who live in imperialist and/or colonized nations (e.g. the US, Canada, Britain) basically need to compensate somewhere if they want to support anyone politically. Bernie Sanders is barely left of center, but leftists are supporting him because he's pretty much the closest thing to an actual leftist in US politics

However, if you're say promoting LGBTQ rights, it doesn't matter if someone agrees with you on everything but the T, that person can't be supported because they are presumably certain going to be bad for transgender rights. Once again, I'm not saying that this is a bad thing, but the very nature of that realization, whether it be that or the economy or #metoo or BLM means that infighting is almost always going to be prevalent and no message will ever be good enough.

this is identity politics, which exists everywhere on the political spectrum.

the most interesting one is the 4th, but that's by a narrow margin over the 2nd.

Uh, so low skilled people get to live for free but since my job can't be automated I'm expected to work to pay for it all?

How about no.

If you don't want to work, you're free to stop doing so and barely scrape by on UBI. Make sure to find a suitable low-cost-of-living area and a room mate or two so that you can combine your UBI together to live out a no-frills life.

That or you can continue doing your work in addition to getting UBI and live like a king.

So if I'm getting UBI on top of my income and I'm "living like a king" which means my taxes haven't gone up... where's the money for the UBI coming from?

therein lies the real problem with UBI: I think it could do a lot of good if combined with existing social programs, public healthcare, etc., but politically, that's not the direction that it's coming from. it's not feasible, and its main proponents want to defund and privatize social services to fund it.

IQ tests are poor measures of "intelligence", especially when they're conducted on children.

The study, by academics at Brock University in Ontario, Canada, used information from two UK studies from 1958 and 1970 , where several thousand children were assessed for intelligence at age 10 and 11,

But amusing how some here are rejoicing over this. I wonder how they feel about the far right using the same types of tests to prove the innate inferiority of Mexicans and Africans.

Very mixed feelings on this. I don't think schools should be compelling speech of any kind if they're publicly funded. I'm also surprised that they didn't agree to the last-name proposal. But, I do think on an individual basis a teacher shouldn't have a problem calling a student by whatever name/nickname they prefer. It is something teachers do for most students anyway. Although I don't think there's enough empirical evidence yet to support Paulsen's argument that not using someone's preferred name contributes to suicide and mental illness. At least not enough evidence to justify a government-funded institution compelling speech.

then it's a good thing that there was no case of compelled speech here
