As for Republicans in Congress stopping Trump's tariffs, that's very unlikely. Republicans are generally not dumb enough to undercut their own negotiator, projecting weakness, when he's in the middle of a negotiation. They did it to Obama, sure, but he was a Democrat.

Several republicans have come out against the tariffs, they are just too scared to do anything outside of a strongly worded tweet. Not for any "negotiation" reasons, but because they are cowardly and scared of hurting themselves among their base. In the case of Jeff Flake, I think he is scared to put his fellow Republicans in a tough spot.

Also, this isn't a negotiation. We set tariffs, and now equal tariffs are coming our way. If we up them, they will be upped back. This is how trade wars start. Trade negotiations happen in agreements like TPP, which Trump threw out.

It's a negotiation. Trump was unhappy with TPP, so he is trying a more aggressive form. They can settle, or we can play the whole trade war game some more and we'll see who is more desperate for a deal later. But that can take years.

Trump was unhappy with the TPP because it was an Obama deal. I can guarantee you he didnt understand what it did any better than a random poster in this topic.

I was surprised he could just establish tariffs unilaterally in the first place.

Last week Bob Corker put forward a bill to formally reestablish the role of congress in tariffs, but it is unclear it will go anywhere with so many Trump cronies in the house.

My understanding is that it's a power that Congress has given to the president (and which they could take away)

I guess he could hypothetically set import/export tariffs to 100%, but I would be surprised if he had the ability to actually ban all imports/exports.

I'm usually a big Manchin defender (especially for the very valid reason stated earlier that he's the best you're going to get from a liberal perspective in WV), but saying he might endorse Trump in 2020 is clear pandering and just sad. He may agree with the Republican party generally on a decent number of issues and may have tried to butter up Trump to get him on his side for a few things, but there is absolutely no way he personally respects Trump at all having seen him up close and personal. He's looking at Trump's approval ratings in his state and making the same calculation that all of the DC Republicans who bitch about Trump off the record but praise him in public are making. It's really pathetic and I deeply hope that he doesn't actually endorse the piece of shit.

(This is similar to how Manchin refused to call Blankenship a racist when asked before the WV primary; he obviously knew he was, but presumably wanted to keep Blankenship's anger focused on 'Cocaine Mitch').

The Brock Turner ruling was super wrong, but I still really disagree with recalling the judge. Judges shouldn't be taking public opinion into account in their rulings.

I've also seen some people bring up the concern that it could make judges warier about being lenient in sentencing in general (I don't think rapists deserve any leniency, but if that thinking extends to things like drug sentences it could be bad).

I'm getting tense for the upcoming primary in California.

I'm in the 49th, and feel pretty good about Applegate. He's not a lock, but I chatted with him yesterday, and

A) He's been talking to constituents, and a lot of them have said that they've already voted through early voting (for him), which is often a good sign.

B) He's military in a military heavy district, which means he overperforms. (He ran in 2016, and came within a razor thin margin of unseating the incumbent massively outpacing the polling; and the incumbent has now retired which means he's walking in with the most name recognition).

I'm also going to be watching the senate race, where I think I like Alison Haartson. Her polling has been weaker, but within margin of error. TBH I don't think she's as strong of a candidate as Applegate but the senate race is also at risk of being really boring if she doesn't win, like...Feinstein vs that nazi guy, or Feinstein vs someone with pretty similar positions to Feinstein (pro death penalty, anti legalization of Marijuana).

I was super unimpressed by Haartson's reddit ama. She does not seem to have a substantive grasp of the issues (which is true of Feinstein on some issues like tech/privacy stuff, but this was on almost everything).

Yes. Hanging out will progress you to the next scene that will increase your level. Make sure to have a Persona of the correct arcana when you do it.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention this earlier. I think the game tells you this but you should always be carrying a persona of the same arcana as the person with whom you're hanging out (doesn't need to be equipped). If you do you'll get 1.5x (I think) as many points.
