As this shows the US outperforms at times, the World ex-US outperforms at times. It's naive to assume this will continue and to position your entire portfolio towards that if you're investing long-term.

How do you read that chart? I only see one line but it's a comparison chart. Is it the difference?

you should have SOME foreign exposure. 10-15% is plenty.

with a solid quantity of small cap exposure youll still keep up with/beat the S&P500

I would say it's a good predictor although it's not perfect. Most of what we know about anything is based on learnings from the past.

I realize things can change, but I want a better reason than I'm "supposed" to. What reason is there for me to expect for it to surpass domestic?

Domestic stock: 55.71%
Foreign stock: 30.60%
Short term: 6.57%
Bonds: 6.50%
Other: .62%

My rate of return last year was 20%

Don't you have to deal with more crap when you invest international? It never felt like it was worth the trouble for me, especially since I don't know foreign markets that well.

You invest in a index fund that track foreign companies. Two or more for a mix of developed and emerging is good.

I looked up the vanguard international stuck fund and emerging markets fund, and just based on the charts, they've been underperforming the SP 500 and I bet there are higher fees.

I'm not feeling it guys.

I'm like 80% domestic stocks, 10% each of international stocks and domestic bonds. We're young and you're not going to beat index funds so I don't understand why anyone would do anything other than index funds and hodl for 30 years. Three fund lazy portfolio set it and forget it, market timing is for suckers.

I made a lot of money off of it so it's all good. Several of my picks more than doubled in value, and I've only picked one stock that ever lost me money (curse you General Mills!)

Like 70% index fund. 30% individual stocks. I don't own any bonds because they grow super slow. No international stocks because of lack of interest. I used to be 100% individual stocks and I made a lot off of it, but got too lazy to manage it all.
