Didn't know that about Rocket League, though I haven't played it much.

I'm not trying to say they can't do it, I'm moreso wondering how well it'd work for a 45-100 long game, compared to much shorter races/matches/etc. that it happens in in other games. Like, it'd have to allow the player back in, because if you get a disconnect and replaced by AI 40 minutes in, and that happens to like, two people, suddenly the game is much less fun for the others still involved and it feels like a waste of time.

And even then, they'd have to have a system for the player coming back in and getting their spot from the AI back, since Mario Party games tend to be much longer than your typical match/round/whatever of other online games, so connection drops and such are bound to happen.

Yeah, I do agree that there's definitely some difficulty in getting full board play to work. You can't just have the game end if somebody drops out, so what do you do? Do you just drop them from the game? Though that could cause balance issues. Do you replace them with AI? It's something I can understand them taking some time to tackle.

They confirmed some kind of 5 minigame gauntlet you can do online against people with cycling minigames, and leaderboards, but then said they couldn't say anything else.

That seems like a small distinction. Falco's moves are pretty similar to Fox's, after all, and Roy is only a little more distinct from Marth than Lucina.

It's not really a small distinction at all. Falco plays very differently than Fox despite similar moves. Lucina's pretty much a few damage changes away from being a Marth costume.

To be fair, I was a bit harsh earlier. Scarlet had a good point that with how many Directs Nintendo has, expecting too much out of E3 is a little unfair. Mario Party seeming to be back to the regular board play style was nice, finally seeing some Fire Emblem was great, Smash getting in-depth attention was good, and seeing Switch get support from stuff like Fortnite is nice. It just wasn't great for new stuff, but I guess it makes sense why they don't show quite as many, because of the Directs.

What exactly determines an echo fighter? They said that echo fighters still have differences from the original characters, but clearly like Luigi isn't one.

I would it assume it only applies to clones that had the same moves but with different properties. So, not Luigi/Falco/Wolf/etc. since their moves differ ever so slightly, but yes Lucina, Dark Pit, and so on.

It's where the consistency of chains comes in

Say you think a certain chain is 7/10 on average. They're rarely going to stray far from that 7/10 range, for better or worse. But you could try five local joints and get a 9/10, a 7/10, two 5/10s, and a 3/10. That consistency isn't there. Now, obviously, if you stick to places people recommend to you and such, you have a much better chance of those places being above a 7/10. But if you just start going to every local joint, you have a decent chance of running into some sub-7/10s as well.

Both sides are right. Local places can be much better than a national chain, or much worse. Like foolmo said, what national chains have going for them is consistency. You know what you're going to get pretty much anywhere you go to one. If it's a local place you've never gone to, you might get something amazing or you might get something completely awful.
