And the hard cap of c does not seem possible to overcome and those that can, are still very sci-fi. It's just guess work that's basically attempting to answer the Fermi Paradox of "where is the evidence?", which is not a strong argument to begin with given not only the size of the galaxy, but the Universe. Also arguing that we still can't reliably estimate several of the Drake Equation variables such as the likelihood of life from non-life and the likelihood of that life evolving to an intelligent species capable of "emiting" evidence. But that doesn't mean the answer is no life (well, they're saying no intelligent life, but the same applies) DarkChozoGhost posted... There's likely no other life within the observable universe. There are only about 10 billion galaxies, each galaxy has less than 100 billion stars that have a habitable zone, and not all of them planets that could support life. If we're being generous, that leaves only like 10^15 solar systems in the observable universe that have planets that could support life. The chance of life coming into existence on one of those planets is well less than septillianth of a percent, so it's highly unlikely for there to be life elsewhere in the observable universe. The current working estimate on the number of galaxies is 2 trillion. And I don't know where you get "The chance of life coming into existence on one of those planets is well less than septillianth of a percent". It's the same way in Nassau and Suffolk, along with Westchester, Essex and Bergen and other NJ counties. In fact, Westchester, Rockland, Essex, Bergen and Nassau have the top 5 highest property taxes in the entire country, with NJ and IL being the highest by state average. It makes it pretty hard for me to leave NYC because my friends and family are all here and these are the best counties to move to so at least I'm close by.
