Actually, now that you mention it, I could do that myself. Changing a constant isn't a big deal.

Although, truthfully, I'm not intensely worried. Unless people here turn out to all be dicks, honor system should be fine. I mean, this is like being in a conversation and just having the grace to let everyone have a chance to speak. If someone fails to follow this "rule", what am I going to do to punish them? Refuse to accept their songs for the rest of the nomination period? The damage is done at that point.

I didn't play much of it, and the one thing I'd like fixed is a simple thing.

Get rid of the "your choices will have consequences" that appears after everything. I've played Visual Novels and just seeing that appear was far more torture than LITERALLY DYING after I've made a choice before. I turned off LiS because of that thing.

At least it wasn't a Telltale game, and your choices actually do have consequences. Even if ultimately you rewind time and erase all of them.

Obvious spoilers for Life is Strange

At one point in time I probably could've written a book about all the changes I would make to Life is Strange. Here are a few broad ideas:

-Shorten (or cut) the nightmare sequence
-Have more than two endings, have prior choices impact them rather than one final choice, and have each ending feel meaningful
-Have a better explanation for the tornado other than a bad time travel cliche

Basically just rework episode five entirely. It still had potential to have a 20/10 ending up to that point.

Yeah, I can get behind these.

Oh hey, I literally just played this game for the first time.

* Give us an ending that isn't a Xanatos Gambit. (I'd be more specific, but spoilers.)
* No more fucking bottles.
* Be a tiny pinch more consistent with the time-rewind rules, especially as they pertain to photographs.
* More instances where time-rewinding has an impact on the game, particularly in the Easter eggs.
* A bit more foreshadowing of the villain so he/she doesn't have to monologue throughout the final episode to establish his/her bad guy cred.
* Characters not being boneheads, like going to the lighthouse for no reason.
* But mostly give us a "true ending", even if it requires multiple playthroughs to achieve. Something like, oh, I don't know, maybe Max photographing Nathan in the bathroom as evidence?

I'm more confused than I was before lol

The basic concept is simple.

The money in an IRA (like all investments) is going to be taxed exactly once. In traditional, you are taxed on that money after it comes out. In a Roth, you are taxed when it goes in.

So, let's pretend that you'll be taxed 28% on both ends. In the Roth, that money will be income this year, and you'll pay 28% of that amount in taxes for 2018. In the traditional, that money will be income in the year it comes out of your retirement, and you'll pay 28% of that amount in taxes for ~2050. Taking the 28% hit on either end will work out exactly the same.

So unless there are other, sneakier factors at work like the way your employer matches your investments, the only thing you have to ask is, "Will I be paying taxes at a higher or lower rate when I'm going to be taking this money out?"

Good luck guessing the tax code in thirty years, though. I can already promise you won't be in the 28% tax bracket next year.

One that always stood out to me was Gruntilda's Lair being Teddy Bear Picnic.

Does that really count? It was obvious that the song was written with the intent to reference TBP. By that argument, any song that has a piece of a work of classical music "sounds like" the classical music it was specifically emulating.

Honor For All sounds like Moonlight Sonata.

Dungeon Fighter's Tower of Despair sounds like the classic death theme.

There are 11 tracks on the Catherine OST that are literally named for the classical work they sound like.

is this the first time a hearthstone card has ever been buffed? I remember this coming up a lot, relating to how they don't nerf cards often enough and they never buff cards but I don't know how literal that is. in this case it's really just undoing a nerf but that's still super interesting.

Since the game came out of beta, yes.

There's a good reason why they don't buff cards -- it isn't worth the development time. If a card is too strong, it affects the meta in a negative way and needs to be fixed. If a card is too weak, it...occasionally makes your arena picks and randomized effects less good. But it seldom actively hurts anything. OTOH, if they buff it, that requires a load of playtesting and analysis for a card that either (a) still doesn't see play or (b) will possibly be too strong and need to be tuned back down.

As such, I expect that nerf reversion is the only situation where you will see this happen, and that will be extremely rare on its own.

Really surprised by those HoF choices. Not Ice Block, obviously. And I like the change they made to Molten Giant, albeit at least one year later than it should have been made. But I'm a little perplexed by Coldlight being the third entry, and that there weren't any other choices made.

Someone's going to have to explain what Brode means by limiting interactivity with battlecries, because I'm not really seeing it. I mean, we already have that shaman card, Murmuring Elemental, which could double up the draws if we're looking at mill. The only thing I see is that maybe they're making a deck that focuses exclusively on cheap, powerful battlecries that outright win the game for you (which would be a Really Bad Idea) and they want to ensure that deck doesn't have an easy way to fuel its draw engine.

I mean, I get why coldlight might be removed. It's a neutral Arcane Intellect (that can be run in addition to AI) to cycle a deck swiftly for combo purposes. However, the capacity to mill a control opponent is also sometimes the only way to defeat it -- look at Raza priest. Being able to force your opponent to draw...well, it's frustrating when it hits you, but it's also a very powerful counter to some dominant strategies.

Anyway, I guess there aren't too many cards that need to be ushered out, but I really expected Alexstrazsa to be on that list.

Is it really that important to get in the first 200 nominations? When I'm deciding what to support, I never go linearly through the topic. I either bounce around, or consult the spreadsheet to see what's on the 3/4 threshold.

Many users begin at post 1 and listen to each song in sequence. It's the only way they can be certain that they haven't overlooked anything. However, they listen much more astutely to the earlier songs, either due to patience, running out of time, or using up all their nominations before they reach post #400. Even if people don't truly go sequentially, there's still definitely an immediacy effect that comes from being high on page 1.

All right, folks. Basically your last chance to ask. Does anyone have any reasons to suggest we should be making any changes to the nomination process? Just got a message from Ed saying how much he missed the two-phase system I tried my first year as host, and how he was hoping I'd have some new innovations. I have no real problems with the 20 + 5 method as long as I don't have to do the data entry manually, though. I will, however, make a humble request that everyone sticks to 5 nominations on the first day that we open things up so everyone has a chance to get their favorite choices in the first ~200 or so nominations even if they aren't here the second the thread goes up.

I'm a math tutor, but I just got contacted by a student who wants help with physics in less than an hour, and sent me some questions he wants to look at. Basic physics, I'm usually fine with, but this is rotational garbage. We did some torque last week, and now he has moment of inertia questions. I was able to reason through what the first few questions require, but then I hit these two, that don't compute to me:

1. In the caber toss, a contest of strength and skill that is part of Scottish games, contestants toss a heavy uniform pole, landing it on its end. A 5.9-m tall pole with a mass of 79 kg has just landed on its end. It is tipped by 25 degrees from the vertical and is starting to rotate about the end that touches the ground. Determine the angular acceleration.

2. A baseball bat has a mass of 0.82 kg and is 0.86 m long. It's held vertically and then allowed to fall. What is the bat's angular acceleration when it has reached 20 degrees from the vertical? (Model the bat as a uniform rod.)

Okay, so I know there's formulas I can use for moment of inertia. I understand that if I knew the net torque, I could use that to find angular acceleration. But I see no mention of torque anywhere. Force due to gravity, sure, but that's not rotational.

The only other way I know to find angular acceleration would require comparing rotation to time. We have rotation, I guess?, but we don't have any time component. So what am I missing?

I've gotten to 10 wins twice though. I felt like a GOD in those runs. But no 12 yet....

Remember that every time you win, somebody else loses. You only get 3 losses, so conversely, the expectation for average number of wins should also be 3.

Obviously, talented players -- contrary to Ulti's claims, there is skill involved in Hearthstone -- will do better than 3 most of the time. However, nobody does much better than an average of 7.

However, what you're seeing that makes it feel like people do better than you is primarily two factors. One, people overrepresent their wins. Two, only people who are above the curve tend to talk about their performance.
