The point I'm making is these guys just don't want poor people to have cell phones. The dude with the $70 smartphone right there is still paying $850 for the first year if he's got that $65 Sprint unlimited plan the other user pointed out.

i don't really see a difference. you'll still pay the value of the phone over time. some folks will get a new phone while still making payments on a previous one. some carriers let you roll it into the new one, but that typically means a monthly billing statement that has a large chunk of the 'savings' rolled into it over time as well, so eventually you're still paying.
