I'm not sorry you feel that way. I'm not a "fake-patriot" or anything like that; I just don't care enough one way or the other about a person being given a parking space close to the store, that's all.

A guy that cooks in a military mess hall - most of those guys do still go through military training, don't they? Or am I way off? That's the perspective I'm operating from.

If it's a rando off the street that applied to be cook, I don't think they are in fact considered vets...I could be wrong.

Trolls on Twitter are trying to stoke outrage by making false claims of racially motivated assaults at screenings of Black Panther. For example, the photo in this tweet actually shows a 19-year-old Swedish woman who was assaulted at a bar last month.



It has nothing to do with the film.

Some trolls are using images of battered women to make their false claims. This tweet includes photos of an 18-year-old woman who was locked in an apartment by her boyfriend and assaulted for four hours. He later pled guilty to two charges of assault.



This troll account used a photo of the ex-wife of former White House staffer Rob Porter.

This Twitter user used a photo from 2009 to make a false claim about being assaulted at a showing. It's generated over 400 retweets.



Fortunately, many people on Twitter are calling out these false claims.

Unfortunately, the fake tweets keep coming. This account used the name and photo of Paul Nehlen, a racist and anti-Semitic man in Wisconsin who is trying to defeat Rep. Paul Ryan in a Republican primary there. Nehlen's Twitter account was recently banned.



The photo this tweet used is actually taken from a viral 2013 video made in Serbia that used special effects makeup to raise awareness about spousal abuse.



This tweet made a false claim of an assault while including a video from a South Korean pop group called BlackPink.



Some troll accounts also tried to circulate claims that people in MAGA hats were attacking theatergoers at Black Panther screenings. Also not true.

They have no control over this, Pearlman said. In fact, he was in custody because of a schizophrenic episode that was continuing for weeks at this point, where he called 911 from a neighbors house saying people were after them.

Hillsborough County Sheriffs Office deputies who responded to the 911 call last August arrested Trevino for violating his parole by being out past his curfew. The parole was the result of a DUI charge in Pasco County. Trevino was then transferred to Pasco County jail.

Trevinos attorneys want the Pasco County Sheriffs Office to step up efforts to train deputies in de-escalation and crisis intervention.

Pearlman, whose brother committed suicide after suffering from mental illness, says the issue is a personal one to him.

"These individuals have to know they're dealing with mentally ill individuals, Pearlman said. That's part of the job. You can't avoid it in our system."

NEW PORT RICHEY (FOX 13) - Attorneys representing the 30-year-old inmate who was shot by Pasco County detention deputies last year have sued the sheriffs office and those deputies for violating constitutional laws, federal disability laws and state public corruption laws.

Attorneys Lee Pearlman, Mark Rankin and Michael Maddux filed the lawsuit in federal court on August 31 on behalf of Matthew Trevino, who sustained long-term injuries when a detention deputy shot him while he was behind the locked doors of his jail cell, suffering from a schizophrenic breakdown.

Corporal Robert Haas fired at Trevino with a shotgun loaded with a Nova round a high-intensity muzzle flash that can have fatal consequences if fired directly at someone, according to the manufacturers website.

Trevino had been searched and booked into the Pasco County jail earlier that day, charged with violating a parole curfew. Deputies had ordered Trevino to cuff up, meaning they wanted him to put his hands through the food chute in order to handcuff him and search him. Trevino, who was in the midst of a schizophrenic breakdown, according to his attorneys, had stripped naked and was not responding to their orders.

"It's obvious that the methods they're employing are going to be completely ineffective to someone in his state, Maddux said. "They actually become angry at him because the completely ineffective, inappropriate, ill-chosen techniques they've chosen don't work - and it's all Matthew's fault."

Video shows Trevino was pressed up against the door when Haas aimed and fired the shotgun at the open food shoot. The blast tore into the muscle in his upper thigh, according to medical records, causing injuries that require ongoing, long-term medical treatment.

Trevinos attorneys say he was in need of help from someone trained in crisis intervention and posed no threat to the officers.

"They had a big, thick, steel door and a wall between them. They didn't need to do anything to him, Maddux said. This is classic excessive force. It's all gratuitous. It's all unneeded."

The lawsuit also says deputies committed official misconduct by allegedly falsifying official records of the incident.

Sheriff Chris Nocco declined requests to be interviewed about the lawsuit. A spokesperson sent a reporter a 60-second clip from an August 25 news conference, in which Nocco said the sheriffs office quickly provided some training, after conducting an internal investigation. In the statement, Nocco does not elaborate on what kind of training was provided to deputies or what the issues were.

PSOs own internal investigations cleared the officers of any wrongdoing, and no officers have been fired as a result of the shooting.

A criminal with a violent history in the jail failed to comply with lawful directions. His actions dictated our reaction," Nocco said in statement in July.

Its a complete misrepresentation, Maddux said of Noccos statement. Sadly, its consistent with what the deputies did when they wrote their reports, which is misrepresent the event. As the public is learning, thank God for video.

In November, several Democrats in Congress, including Mr. Pallone, called on the inspector generals office to explore all communications including personal emails, social media accounts, text messages and phone calls between Sinclair and Mr. Pai and his staff.

The lawmakers also asked for communications between Mr. Pais office and the White House. They pointed to a report in March 2017 from The New York Post, in which Mr. Trump is said to have met with Sinclairs executive chairman, David Smith, and discussed F.C.C. rules.

Some members of Congress have asked Mr. Pai for such communications, but he has not responded.

The F.C.C. inspector general, David L. Hunt, and other officials in his office met with aides in the House and Senate, including those for Mr. Pallone, in December. The F.C.C. officials told the aides that they would open an investigation, according to four people with knowledge of the meetings.

In later conversations, F.C.C. officials said that an investigation was underway, according to two other aides.

The aides, all of whom work for Democratic lawmakers, would speak only on the condition of anonymity because the investigation is private.

The investigation could put the F.C.C. inspector generals office in a high-profile situation.

Mr. Hunt was promoted to lead the office in 2011 by Julius Genachowski, a Democrat and the F.C.C.s then-chairman, after working in the agency for about five years. The office investigates potential violations of civil and criminal laws by agency staff members and companies that receive money from the agency. On Wednesday, the inspector general for veterans affairs, a similar position, released a scathing report about travel spending by the departments secretary, David J. Shulkin.

The F.C.C.s inspector general does not make public all of its investigations. But details of some investigations have been disclosed through Freedom of Information Act requests and through the offices reports to Congress.

In 2015, the inspector generals office looked into possible coordination between the Obama administration and the F.C.C. chairman at the time, Tom Wheeler, on the creation of so-called net neutrality rules. The rules prevented broadband providers from blocking or slowing traffic to consumers. The inspector general said its investigation could not find clear improper conduct.

Antitrust experts said this new investigation may complicate the reviews of the Sinclair-Tribune deal by the F.C.C. and the Justice Department. Even if the deal were approved, they said, any conclusions of improper conduct by Mr. Pai could give fuel to critics to challenge the review in courts.

An investigation could cast a cloud over the whole process, said Andrew Schwartzman, a senior fellow at Georgetown Law Centers Institute for Public Representation. For the review, knowledge of an investigation could generate caution and even delay completion of the deal.

WASHINGTON Last April, the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, Ajit Pai, led the charge for his agency to approve rules allowing television broadcasters to greatly increase the number of stations they own. A few weeks later, Sinclair Broadcasting announced a blockbuster $3.9 billion deal to buy Tribune Media a deal those new rules made possible.

By the end of the year, in a previously undisclosed move, the top internal watchdog for the F.C.C. opened an investigation into whether Mr. Pai and his aides had improperly pushed for the rule changes and whether they had timed them to benefit Sinclair, according to Representative Frank Pallone of New Jersey and two congressional aides.

For months I have been trying to get to the bottom of the allegations about Chairman Pais relationship with Sinclair Broadcasting, Mr. Pallone, the top Democrat on the committee that oversees the F.C.C., said in the statement to The New York Times. I am grateful to the F.C.C.s inspector general that he has decided to take up this important investigation.

It was unclear the extent of the inspector generals investigation or when it might conclude, but the inquiry puts a spotlight on Mr. Pais decisions and whether there had been coordination with the company. It may also force him to answer questions that he has so far avoided addressing in public.

The inquiry could also add ammunition to arguments against the Sinclair-Tribune deal. Public interest groups and Democratic lawmakers, including Mr. Pallone, are strongly opposed to the deal, arguing that it would reduce the number of voices in media and diminish coverage of local news.

Sinclairs chief executive, Chris Ripley, has called Mr. Pais relaxation of media ownership rules a landmark development for his company and the industry. A union of Sinclair and Tribune would create the nations biggest television broadcaster, reaching seven out of 10 American homes. The F.C.C. and Justice Department are widely expected to approve the merger in the coming weeks.

The office of F.C.C. inspector general, which is a nonpartisan role that reports to the agency and regularly updates Congress on some investigations, said it would not comment on the existence or the nonexistence of an investigation.

Mr. Pais office and Sinclair declined to comment. When the legislators called for an investigation in November, a spokesman for the F.C.C., representing Mr. Pai, said the allegations of favoritism were baseless.

For many years, Chairman Pai has called on the F.C.C. to update its media ownership regulations, the F.C.C. spokesman said. The chairman is sticking to his long-held views, and given the strong case for modernizing these rules, its not surprising that those who disagree with him would prefer to do whatever they can to distract from the merits of his proposals.

A New York Times investigation published in August found that Mr. Pai and his staff members had met and corresponded with Sinclair executives several times. One meeting, with Sinclairs executive chairman, took place days before Mr. Pai, who was appointed by President Trump, took over as F.C.C. chairman.

Sinclairs top lobbyist, a former F.C.C. official, also communicated frequently with former agency colleagues and pushed for the relaxation of media ownership rules. And language the lobbyist used about loosening rules has tracked closely to analysis and language used by Mr. Pai in speeches favoring such changes.
