For those who didn't see the latest Pokemon movie in theaters, it will be shown on TV in the US at 12:00 PM EST on Disney XD. I plan to watch it since I wasn't able to see it in theaters.

Granted, the 2004 poll is hard to draw too many conclusions from since the data is split at different points, but we can at least see that the percentage who completed 30% or less is far lower. And a higher percentage in 2004 completed 76% or more than the 2017 percentage who've completed only 61% or more. I imagine the rise of digital games is the main reason for the discrepancy.

Steam is a big factor in this, with their frequent sales driving people to buying a lot of games. And there's also game bundles, as you stated in another post.

Normally it's a violation of the ToU to celebrate deaths, but the mods actually made a rare exception in the case of Osama bin Laden because he was so evil that you couldn't find anything good to say about him. Not sure if Charles Manson would fall under this exception as well.

I made that post in an old topic from last year in a topic dedicated to the initial Switch reveal. The quoted posts do a really good job at convincing people to buy a Switch.

As for Pokemon on the Switch, that game won't be coming out until 2019 or 2020, so there's no pressing need for you to buy a Switch right away. By the time Pokemon arrives on the Switch, the Switch itself might have already gotten a price drop by then (in addition to a much stronger game library).

Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon just came out yesterday, so you could get one of those games and not bother getting the original Sun/Moon. Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon also fixes a major complaint with the original Sun/Moon (wild Pokemon calling for help like crazy).

The games are less than 24 hours from coming out, and I wanted to get a topic set up for discussing the topics whenever you guys get your copy of the game. This is a place to not only discuss your progress of playing through the game, but also for setting up trades/battles online with other people from this board.

In about 9 days from today, there will be a Twitch Plays Pokemon Ultra Sun playthrough, but I'll set up a separate topic to discuss their playthrough of the game.

Looking at the coverage that has been posted, the availability of Solgaleo/Lunala between the 2 versions is exactly the same compared to Sun/Moon (it's not reversed like what happened with Black 2/White 2). This means if you had Sun, you would have to get Ultra Moon to get a Lunala.

Over 50% playrate for a non-Nintendo modern game is quite good. Currently at 54.73% for the original Assassin's Creed and 63.18% for the series as a whole.

Galaxy 1 had a playrate of 59.58% in its poll yesterday. I'll wait until today's poll result goes final before adding both playrate results to the Board 8 wiki.

X and Y weren't really good.

Although part of that is related to there being no third game (or sequels) to X/Y. Pokemon Z never happened, which means no chance for the games to expand upon Zygarde (the Z Legendary if there was a Pokemon Z). Instead, it was the anime that expanded upon Zygarde and not the games.

I also want to complain about how the battle writing is underwhelming. We could have seen more variety of attacks, like Volt Tackle or Smokescreen, and it would have been awesome to see Charizard use Hyper Beam or Outrage, but they just had to stick to same few attacks.

Also, I've seen the anime completely disregard type effectiveness. One example of this was during the Gen VI anime where Team Rocket tried to catch an Espurr in a haunted house. James used his Inkay against Espurr, and the Espurr managed to use some kind of Psychic move on it. Inkay, being part Dark type, shouldn't have been affected by the move Espurr tried to use on it.

I haven't seen the movie yet and it would have been nice to see it in theaters just like I did for the first 3 movies, so I will have to settle for watching the movie when it appears on Disney XD (for the US). Each generation of Pokemon games also introduces a new batch of Pokemon. For reference, here are the number of Pokemon introduced in every generation:

Gen I - 151
Gen II - 100
Gen III - 135
Gen IV - 107
Gen V - 156
Gen VI - 72
Gen VII - 86

No one really knows how many new Pokemon Gen VIII will introduce, but we should have a total of 160-200 Pokemon between both Gen VII and VIII combined.

"I drive" has a below average board vote and Power Hour, when comparing them to the final result. Normally, it's the been the case for the past few years that options with a good Power Hour don't manage to replicate that Power Hour strength during the ASV/SNV, but this is one of the few exceptions to the rule. "I drive" drops off during the night vote, which was its worst time period. "I drive" recovers from the bad night vote during the morning vote, where it performs slightly above average. The ASV and SNV is the best time period for "I drive" since part of the ASV occurs after Europe starts going to sleep and the SNV happens when Europe is mostly asleep by then.

"I get a ride" and "I walk" both have rather similar trends, with a good board vote and Power Hour, plus an above average night vote. Both options perform worst during the ASV/SNV and have a fairly average morning vote.

"I ride a bicycle" has a terrible board vote, Power Hour, and SNV. It performs best during the night vote and has an average morning vote and ASV.

"Public transportation" performs worst during the board vote, Power Hour, and SNV. It has an average morning vote, and below average ASV.

"I just stay home" has fairly consistent trends over the course of the entire poll.


Looking at the Geolocation trends here, I thought that the rise of both Uber and Lyft over the past few years would translate into an increase for public transportation in the US, but any increase appears to be extremely minor. History of the US's percentage for public transportation:

11/8/2017 - 6.70%
7/22/2015 - 6.38%
8/13/2012 - 5.98%
2/24/2009 - 6.52%

So apart from the 2009 result, the public transportation percentage has gone up in both polls after 2012, but the increase is so small that I don't think Uber and Lyft are really affecting things here. Both companies help fill in a void that the US is severely deficient in, their poor public transportation infrastructure.
