I know, but at the same time, I've held like 7 of these already, and I really think this way has worked out better than the alternative

People get upset whether the characters are included or excluded, so it really just ends up being more enjoyable to be as inclusive as possible.

I have to say after reading arguments I think having a character with previous existing forms is an unfair advantage. This isn't as bad as Deadpool by any stretch, but it's pushing it.

Yep, and a character eveybody knew from earlier appearances. At least if it's a character that's never been adapted before (e.g. Oberyn) that is less of a problem.

I do agree that Deadpool was a weird case. I don't think Laura's the same though. Like Oberyn, she hasn't really been adapted (I mean, she's appeared in things, but never like this in major live action/X-Men film canon)

and for what it's worth, the film appearances do really make the difference I think (see none of the Suicide Squad characters getting nominated despite how popular Joker/Harley Quinn are)

Considering the topic says Laura Kinney, and in the movie I'm pretty sure she was called Laura Howlett, I understand the confusion. (In her bio shown in the movie, which is labeled X-23, she is listed as Laura Howlett.)

I know in the comics shes Laura Kinney, but she isn't called that in Logan.

honestly I think in the movie it didn't even mention a last name so that might've just got added during the nomination phase

I'm probably just salty because I really like 9S, but I would've preferred him to lose to basically anyone else in the bracket (except Vulture for the same reasons). As it stands, there's a possibility that the 2016 winner is Deadpool and the 2017 winner is X-23, which is for lack of a better word, really lame.

for what it's worth, I think I would've rather seen that than a 9S v. 2B finals, which I feel like will happen otherwise

Eh, there are enough people voting for X-23 specifically that I don't think it's really fair. It's a distinct portrayal but you can't take away the appreciation for the character that people already have. I know that it's just how the rules are but I'm personally not for it.

To be fair though, the character in the movie was called X-23 too. I mean, she was mostly referred to as Laura but I don't necessarily see that as voting for the pre-existing character

if it is Please let it be clear that when you vote you are voting for the specific new portrayal of the character listed

though for what it's worth, I never read the X-23 comics (beyond brief appearances) and Laura was still probably my favorite new character of the year

It's a pretty distinct portrayal, especially since she hasn't really appeared in other forms of media significantly (as opposed to Deadpool, who had had his own game).

I was really against Spider-Man that same year (who certainly didn't feel like a 2016 character by any stretch) but it wasn't really fair of me to twist the rules on a case-by-case basis.

The first year this ran (2014 I think?) characters from comics weren't allowed, and a lot of people were upset about it because characters from The Flash and Gotham couldn't get in. Most notably, the exclusion of Gotham's Oswald Cobblepot was the biggest issue for people because he had been one of the most popular new characters of the year (and pretty significantly different from any other portrayal of the Penguin) and I even agreed I felt like he should be included

Vader, Dan, Seung Mina and Ruby all arrive at the feast at around the same time.

A banquet of food lies before them in the rearranged lounge. Meats, veggies & pastries of various cultures; a little something for everything.

Mina's stomach growls as she gazes at the food, but she sees Dan giving the meal the same look. Vader looks unamused, and Ruby seems more concerned with Vader than with the feast.

Vader steps toward the door, but is cut off by Ruby's scythe. Sensing the incoming trouble, Dan and Mina look at each other, rush into the lounge, and lock the door behind them.

Vader force-grabs the scythe, throwing it away from him, flinging Ruby along with it. "Your passion could be useful... if you weren't so reckless."

Ruby smiles, anticipating the attack. Her scythe transforms, and she unleashes a flurry of sniper shots. By the time the shots had left the chamber, Vader's lightsaber was drawn, and with a few flicks of the wrist he slices right through the incoming bullets.

Dan and Mina dig in, trying their best to tune out the gunshots outside the door. They continuously glance up at each other, refusing to trust one another.

Dan notices Mina clutching what appears to be a small note in her hand as she eats with her right.

"The hell is that?"

Ruby's smiles fades to a scowl. She vanishes into thin air, moving fast enough to appear as though she were teleporting down the hall, getting closer and closer to Vader in flashes.

Finally, from behind him, Ruby's scythe comes down at Vader.

He spins, the lightsaber slicing directly through her scythe, and then through her shoulder. The metal hits the ground with a clink as the saber sears her.

She drops the rest of her scythe as the heat grows closer to her heart, sending it racing. Her eyes turn a bright silver, and a flash of light blinds the entire hall.

Dan snatches the paper from Mina, seeing Nakoruru's note. Images of his own torn alliances flash through his mind as he reads the words.

He tears the note to shreds, as Mina fumes, grasping for the torn pieces. "You asshole! Why would you do that?"

He glares at her. "You're pathetic." They hear a scream from outside the door. "Guess that'll be my cue." He grabs a handful of food, kicking open the door as he storms out.

Before him, Ruby collapses, giving into her injuries.

Across from her stands Vader, petrified and frozen in time.

Dan keeps his head down, shuffling away as Mina sits over the table, her appetite gone.

A few minutes later, Fred Durst rushes in.

"Holy shit! Look at this feast!" He jumps into a seat and eats everything he can handle, kicking his feet up onto the table.
