I wanted to get my 3000 feathers before skill inheriting her since she's a 5* base-- that one is pretty close, she's at 2800 HM right now so yeah "soon." Serra's been pretty capable of killing stuff without it though so I haven't really felt rushed.

Good design but kinda just a lame slash bot overall. I'll give him a bit of credit because enough of his kills are on the quirky side that you could maybe say that that's his sick sense of humor showing through. Also dig the cha cha cha cha cha sound effects, quite a bit.

His mother angle is an attempt to add depth but it's just not very interesting and I'd prefer literally no backstory to it-- mystery is actually better than what you get.

Okay so after some deliberations, I've ruled out

Sabin (actually have a lot of tools to make a fire team right now, but his OSB is probably enough to help that. Never use him on main team)
Yuffie (seems obsoleted by her other bsb as well as her other stuff, and her SSB is good enough for now)
Cloud of Darkness (Got a lot of mages that fill her niche that I like better, including a Seymour I have two breaks for already)
Vanille (insta heals kinda step on Minwu's gimmick and I'm probably not gonna use her much-- her burst commands seem kinda bad too)
Larsa (like Nick I don't like to use strong units for the sake of it, and despite being useful dude isn't exciting)

Leaving the options to

Dark Knight Cecil, Faris, Rikku for first
Yuna for second

So I guess I'll grab Yuna's at least. I wish we could delay this selection till the next FFX banner. If those Rikku daggers weren't in there as a secondary goal on a Tidus banner I'd definitely get those as it seems like the most useful relic of the three. But I just know I'll get one of them if I get it.

It's based only off the first game, but I feel that's enough material to gauge him on since he has the biggest role there. I ultimately don't have a lot to say about him. His gruff badass attitude works, and I like his gradual opening up to you over the course of the game as you talk to him more. He was always in my party along with Tali.

To be clear I wasn't necessarily saying that you should discount his votes. Just that if you were feeling like you should I wouldn't judge you for it when I would generally frown upon it. To me it's really whatever. It's like throwing a 1 into every rating which balances out and is ultimately fair.

Well if we go by that in the first list it's...

Vanille > Yuna > Larsa/CoD (literally haven't used either one ever, but they're also newer characters)

And the second list it's...

Yuffie > Dark Cecil > Faris > Rikku > Sabin

But I use all of the first so little all the second often enough that it's not obvious and should come down to which is "better" which isn't obvious to me.

Yuna vs Vanille is interesting in that I think Yuna's is way better in pretty much every way (holy boost armor is better equipment, and I could see the mag/mind buff being fun to have while Vanille's burst isn't really doing anything I don't already have) but I like Vanille better to actually use. But my Yuna is actually probably stronger at that since I have so much of her crap by accident.

You know, I think these topics tend to be overly kind on the rating scale, with a lot of people operating on a 7/10 center for their scale or giving every character they like a 9 or 10.

Ninian's boosts are so strong I think her chances of losing are actually way lower than most and probably lower than 20%. It does happen that the timing is such that she's been scaring but Corrin's got a pretty narrow window to actually win with, and if she blows it she goes on a 5 hour recharge or something even in the end.

Also I like Ninian better so yeah may as well make the gamble. I also kinda think my chances of decent in army rank are a bit better here since I bet a lot less in this army have Ninian than the other army has Corrin so that 10% may matter

Yeah I thought about this, and well it depends where your total rank was but

1001-5000 = 2600 feathers
1-1000 = 3000 feathers

So really Ninian gives more feathers overall assuming she wins since win bonus overcomes the 400 feather difference there, unless you fall two brackets.

I'm having the opposite issue between the two banners, but both causing it to be difficult to make a choice.

Crystal Tower has too few relics. I have Y'sh and Minwu and I dunno if I care about any of the others that much. Choices for this are coming down to:

Cloud of Darkness - Kinda want a darkness boosting rod and she's one of the better characters on the banner
Yuna - Rare magic buff in case I wanna run a mage team which I can kinda do now with Vivi, Serah, and Seymour as a starting backbone.
Larsa - Just in case I absolutely need astra to beat a boss, but it's not exciting
Vanille - Favorite character of the lot aside from Minwu, but the burst doesn't seem all that strong and I don't see myself using her all that often given I have two good WMs

30th Anniversary has too many relics. This one I'm narrowing it down to

Dark Knight Cecil - I like the guy and I don't draw on FFIV all that much so it's tough to get this otherwise
Faris - I already got Setzer's darts but now that I have Pirate Princess I think fleshing out her break variety a bit seems worth doing so I have two fully viable breakers
Sabin - I have his OSB and it seems like it's a good way to lead into it-- but is this any good? Is Sabin any good?
Yuffie - Yuffie's a staple on my teams but I don't know how strong this really is and her SSB is great anyway-- feel like I'd just be using the SSB more often
Rikku - This burst seems strong but I feel like if I ever got her Ultra I'd never use this as her meter generation isn't so great as to use both easily-- and I think I have a decent chance of just getting this burst by accident.
Tidus/Quina/Paine - Tidus stat stick option. +10 Attack for Tidus, or bonus water damage attack armor.

Which of these look best I dunno?

Eh I'd probably support Corrin just off their source games. Wasn't much a fan in FE7.

Heroes made me like Ninian a lot more than FE7 did though. Like her art and VA a lot here and she's been pretty useful so she's grown on me.

Pisces is actually my birthday too but I made Ramza a Sagittarius my first playthrough for some reason-- which to be fair is somewhat lucky as well. Bad instead of worst but it could be worse.

Later playthroughs my inner shipper tended to make him Capricorn for best Agrias compatibility-- which is good with Wiegraf which tends to help with strategy 2 at least.

I mean I guess like, the plot and stuff is good. The gameplay of that fight is super dumb, though. It's basically 3 checks.

1. Are you overleveled? If not, go to 2
2. Are you specced as a class that has the right speed to sandwich two turns in between Wiegraf's and one round him? If not, go to 3.
3. Do you have rubber boots/chameleon robe and enough STATZ that he can't one round you? If so flop around like a fish and do some dumb thing like yell a lot. Otherwise 4.
4. Better hope you had a backup save outside the castle bro.

Castle rooftop is arguably even worse in this regard, to be fair. Just a bunch dumb fights in that part of the game. Gafgarion now that was a guy who had difficult fights that were actually difficult in a good way.

Doesn't help that I actually think Wiegraf's boss fight kinda sucks to be honest. Difficult, yeah, but it's difficult in degenerate ways. It's more about knowledge + making requisite gear purchases or grinding than in fight tactics.

His earlier game fights are good though.

I completely understand why people like Wiegraf. Like to me, you've got a consistently written character who contributes a lot to the story and develops in a way that makes complete sense for the situations presented to him. I'd imagine these are things that appeal to a lot of people.

Unfortunately, for me, this character has a pretty boring personality where I can't really name any real personality traits aside from "driven," and I don't find most of what he does particularly interesting. As Drak said, I can't even really say he did the wrong thing-- but for me, personally, that almost takes some of the appeal from the character. Like he's almost too logically written for me to find a lot of intrigue out of what he did. He always takes the road that makes sense given the choices available to him, which is good writing I guess, but it makes me credit any real appeal I'd get out of him to the story more than him.

Like, I could humor an argument that Wiegraf himself, the entire character, is one big ass elaborate plot device.

But I get it. He's just not for me, though.
