I actually started reading the manga also, though I'm not too far yet. (It's more or less the same as far as I know, though I believe there is one plotline that got cut from the movie. Don't remember specifically what it was though as of now)

One thing I will say about the movie as compared to the manga is that it does a really good job actually showing the communication gap that exists between Shouko and everyone else. Not that the manga has done it poorly so far--far from it--but now matter how skilled a writer you are there's a difference between reading words on a page and hearing words spoken. And that's a distinction that's significant for this story in particular. Also the music/sound design is...really good, though my memory of the specifics is fading and I'd need to watch it again to describe that at any level of detail.

On the other side of the coin though the manga is doing a noticeably better job characterizing Shoya and allowing you to really get inside his head. Interesting (though admittedly not that surprising) how the different mediums emphasize different aspects of the story. Either way though the story is fantastic in both forms.

I more or less agree with the Clannad comparison. It fits pretty well, though it might give the wrong impression to someone who hasn't seen/read A Silent Voice, depending on what aspects of Clannad they think you're comparing to.

Also Miyako best anime mom by a country mile tbh. I'd say she should be higher on your character rankings...but I don't even think I'm willing to move her above anyone other than Ueno. The top 3 are all so good.

By the way watch the OVA's if you can. There's two of them, the first occurring between episodes 20/21, and the second occurring between episodes 21/22. A lot of people think those OVA's are the best episodes of the series.

Personally I actually thought one of them was pretty bad, but I do like the other one at least.

I do think it needed a few more episodes, but we're talking about the difference between a 9/10 and a 10/10 here.

Another really strong block, which was a pleasant surprise since I thought I would not be a fan of this one based on the games the songs were from. Unfortunately, despite being a pretty good song itself, Christmas is Here is the clear last place here. Had a lot of trouble ordering the other 4 though, which were all really good.

And with that I think everything from rotation 2 is either finished or claimed. I'm able to do more if needed, but I won't actually claim anything unless you ask me to take some block from a different rotation, azuarc.

The thing about the Matous is probably a more legitimately formed opinion, if that influences your decision. In this case this is more a kneejerk reaction to me hearing the OP the first time and thinking its tone differed too much from the Death Billiards OVA this was based on.

I really liked this show, but more because of individual episodes than due to any cohesive whole. Episodes 3, 10, and 11 are top tier anime episodes imo.

No he was referring to the voices I believe. Like, I don't think I've seen many Western anime fans call out Japanese voice actors for being subpar, but that is basically what happens all the time with dubs.

Another strong 5 pack. No true standouts, but all of these are pretty good songs. Bottom three could all be interchanged relatively easily.

I just finished episode 10 now. When I made that post I just finished whatever part where he literally invents flying.

And I have a feeling he's going to become more overpowered as the series goes on rather than less. (By which I mostly mean that I don't think he's revealed his entire playbook yet--not necessarily that he'll become more skilled as the series goes on, though that might happen as well)

Of course, I also suspect there's other overpowered characters in the series we just haven't seen in action yet, but yeah.

I feel like my blocks have been extremely lopsided in quality in this contest.

Ok just for the heck of it I decided to roughly order all 25 songs I've ranked so far in one list. Turns out I ended up giving a +1 to my #10 favorite song just because 5 of my top 10 happened to be in the same block. In addition to that the +1 from the block I just ranked ended up in position #16, which isn't that out of order I guess but still feels like that song got screwed. And then also one of my +5's ended up at #15, so there's that also.

I'm salty.

No standouts in this pack, but the top 3 are all reasonably solid songs at least (and probably could be interchanged pretty easily). Yehat Theme didn't do much for me but was at least a fine song. Lion Heart I did not like at all.

I'll take whatever the next 200's block is now also, though it won't get ranked until tomorrow night I think.

Taiga isn't my favorite tsundere, but she's my favorite character who happens to be a tsundere, if that makes sense?

Like she's definitely a tsundere, but there's a lot more to her character than just fitting into the archetype, and I'd argue the other stuff is actually more fundamentally important to her character.

I generally like her though I wouldn't say I'm a super-fan or anything. The surprise was mostly because this is an archetype I don't think I've seen her in, and it's also one she seems well-suited for.

Since I was complaining about it initially, I feel I should mention that I've warmed up a lot to this season of March Comes in Like a Lion. It still hasn't returned to the high points of season 1, but it's definitely a show I'm glad to be watching again. (and has been for several weeks now)

I will make no apologies about the fact that I am probably biased towards The House in Fata Morgana. (I don't think it mattered here in light of what I say in the next paragraph, but oh well) I love this game to death though and I also love its soundtrack. Not expecting it to do particularly well overall. However Giselle is one of the few songs from the OST that I think works just as well out-of-context, so I have reasonable hopes for this song at least.

Other than that not too impressed with this list of songs. I'll put more details in the comments in the spreadsheet, but yeah. The Wind is Calling and the Divinity Main Theme were fine, but at the same time they definitely don't impress me and don't feel like songs that should be getting the +4.

Anyway, I'll take another block now, though I likely won't get to this one till tomorrow.

And also in the Japanese version the VA for the Count does a very good job with the role. (Also on a different note he's the same guy who voices Kotomine in the Fate series, which is another role he does excellently.)
