I did. It was pretty weird to finally beat (without using warp zones) the first game that I ever remember seriously playing as a kid.

SMB1 is no SMB3. The controls are clunky, it can be incredibly cheap, and it gets a bit repetitive. The Bowser fights toward the end are particularly amusing, as you basically just need to eat a hit and then sprint past him to the axe in order to win. But it's still a damn good platformer overall, and it's kind of impossible for me to rate it irrespective of the context of its era. 8.5/10.

So the issue wasn't that they thought that it would be approved because the other brand did it, it was approved because the mandate was for X to happen, X being "we need to achieve this goal in order to pursue our endgame." Absolution and Riott Squad exist because they needed women available and they needed them fast. The only way to achieve that end was to introduce new women on both shows, and the only way to reach the quantity necessary was to introduce them as stables, where you can put less of a premium on individual introductions. The issue isn't laziness so much as incompetence. These are the worst TV writers working with a guy who built a company on stealing top stars and relying on these stars to overcome bad writing after a certain point.

So the laziness is in not finding unique ways to achieve Vince's goals. Yes, there are aspects of the shows that are about kowtowing to Vince's bizarre proclivities, but this is an instance of a mandate for a larger goal leaving no real outs for bad writers. Bad writers can't get better. They'll still be bad. There's a reason they aren't working for a TV show that could actually be in Emmy contention. They wanted a Women's Rumble, so they needed to introduce women and these guys couldn't come up with a way to make the pieces necessary for that Rumble interesting. A Women's Rumble is a great idea; the devil is in the details, and the writers have no understanding of little things weighing down big moments.

You would think bad writers COULD get better with experience

I feel like the writing is lazier than ever.

Stuff like both Rumble Title matches being 3-way (kinda), both shows adding extra people to PPV main events this week, even the simultaneous debuts of Absolution and Riott Squad

Its like if one brand gets Vince approval on an idea, the other one just says well I know that idea will get Vince approval! Well do it on this show too because Im tired of Vince yelling at me and trying to run me off the road in non-consensual drag races.

I woke up today more frustrated than usual about SD

Raw is whatever. They just bumble from matchup to matchup around the main event scene until its the anointed time for Roman vs Brock. Its not great but it is what it is

SD on the other hand has so much damn POTENTIAL for a layered story with this DB vs Shane tension, with both having valid points and also clouded selfish judgment.

Its gotten the WWE Championship wrapped up in it, and all sorts of toxic elements like KO/Zayn and Zigglers entitlement and Corbins destructive tantrums are getting out of control because of the management feud. A show on the brink of chaos.

My point being that you can see the potential there for something denser but youre stuck with WWE writers who cant realize it.
