Correct. The Swordcraft Story games are basically a Tales of Summon Night spin-off sub-series, and Twin Age is a separate spin-off game, too. The main Summon Night series consists of tactics-based RPGs with dating sim elements. The back of the box for SN6 compares it to Sakura Wars, and that is not a bad comparison (... speaking of dead series that never got a fair shake in the U.S.).

Summon Night 6 acquired for my Vita. I cannot help but ask myself why Victor Ireland pulled out all the stops for a game that is basically one big homage to all the previous games in the main series, only one of which has been localized (... for PSP long after the PSP took a bow in the U.S.). In his notes at the back of the (physical) manual, he boasts about how it is the biggest project he has done to date, but there is no disguising that the Vita is approaching the end of its life. If he sank a ton of money into this, then it might well be a waste, since only a handful of us were even looking for it in the first place.

Memory cards are weird. I've still got my original one for my PS1, and, somehow, it still works just fine. Even still has my old Grandia save from '02 on there, still. (Nothing from '99 is on there, though; back in the day, I usually had to delete the old saves to make room for the new ones.) ... Granted, if it ever cuts out on me, I've got a stack of third-party back-ups. Remember when memory cards were cheap? Dammit.

Actually, to this day I've only bought three systems brand new; my DSi, original 3DS and New 3DS.

Oddly enough, the only consoles that have crapped out on me over the years have been consoles I've bought new (e.g. my first PS2, my first 360). My Vita's a refurb.

Integrity & Faithlessness is half of a Star Ocean game that sells for the price of a full one. Or it did before, at least. The price has dropped since I got it at launch. Not as bad as Last Hope, IMO, but still pretty bad.

Thank you for the consolation, all. My Game Stop had one Vita memory card left in stock. 8 GB, refurbished. $17.49 U.S. after discount. (Why Sony never drops the prices on accessories for a portable the company no longer supports is a mystery to me.) Not a perfect solution, but it will have to do. Already redownloaded the high-quality voice patch for Danganronpa V3, and I might have room for one of the digital-only games, but that is all for now. Going to focus on physical copies.

One spot of good news from Amazon, at least: Volumes 12 and 13 of the Monster Musume manga arrived today. I said before that I stick to anime, since manga has a high price point compared to streaming video, but Monster Musume is one of the exceptions I make. Another is World War Blue, but it looks like Volume 8 is as far as the U.S. release of that is going to go, and the story is woefully incomplete at that point. And I do like reading the Trinity Seven manga, but the artwork is ... not great, IMO. Worth reading for the story and characterization, since it goes so far beyond the anime, but I am just not a fan of the artwork.

Vita woes here, too.

You all might remember that I have had issues with corrupt data on my memory card in the past. Previously, a system update made it look like those issues had been resolved. ... They came back last night. With a vengeance. Nothing is playable on my Vita, and the memory card apparently jacked itself so badly that it can neither be accessed nor formatted. It is officially dead. And, as a result, so is all of my save data.

I am going to Game Stop today to find a new card. Most likely going to go the 8 GB route for now to minimize my losses while I see whether or not there is a system memory problem that might have caused the previous meltdown. I do not think there is, based on what I have seen. Should just be a memory card issue, painful though that is. If things are stable, I can always save up money and upgrade back to a 16 GB card (or higher) so that I can redownload my digital-only titles.

But let me have a moment of silence for ... so many things. My full-upgrade aluminum bat of destruction in Akiba's Trip. My recent clear data in Superdimension Neptune VS. Sega Hard Girls. All the class trials I survived (and, in V3, did not finish) in the Danganronpa trilogy. My high scores in Senran Kagura: Bon Appetit. The endgame save in Lost Dimension. ... So many more things. *shakes head* The Vita is a great portable, undermined by poor hardware support and the unwillingness of Sony to let us use proven memory (i.e. SD cards) instead of their overpriced proprietary bullshit.

The point of the 3DS is to feature games using the 3D aspect of the system.

I turned off the 3-D feature on my launch 3DS shortly after I got it. Has not been turned on since then, barring the times when my thumb accidentally bumps the slider. Hate that.

I doubt I am going to manage to find all of the apple scenes, Youkai, but I hope to try. Saving that task for another day. But you see why I love that VN, yes?

Got the true ending in Superdimension blah blah blah, but there are still trophies and the like left to get. Might save those for another day, too. (I have never earned platinum for a game.)

This ... is not the Star Ocean game I recommend. To anyone. In fact, or at least in my opinion as a long-time fan, this is the worst game in the series. And a remaster of a game that is already in HD is pointless, but ... Square Enix. *shrugs* At least this one is a complete game, unlike Integrity & Faithlessness.

And I like Melissa Fahn (because Nep), but adding Welch to games that did not have her before (Star Ocean 2) annoyed me.

Good to hear that you are enjoying the game, but it is true that the girls at that school are about as unworldly as can possibly be. Then again, in real-life Japan, almost no one talks about lesbianism at all, and the social norm is to pretend that it does not exist (outside of media, perhaps).

I have fond memories of that game busting my balls back in the day. IMO, it is fun once you get used to the controls, but it is very difficult. One of the hardest I have played, in fact, but beating it provided a major sense of satisfaction. If you can take down 2010, you can rest assured that you are not bad at video games.

In terms of story, I agree, Tactics is the best of the Final Fantasy franchise (IMO).

Still pales next to Tactics Ogre PSP, though. (Same writer / director.)

Achieved the normal ending for Superdimension Neptune VS. Sega Hard Girls. Roughly thirty hours of play time to get there. To get the true ending, I am going to have to grind, since there is a difficulty spike to the fights that get added to the mission list after beating the game the first time. *shrugs* I can do that, so long as I manage my missions (e.g. the missions for removing level caps, adding third classes, etc.) in order to keep the counter from running down.

I do not have a Switch (... yet), and the game is full of Awakening and Fates characters (and Shadow Dragon, because Marf). While I do not mind those games, I would have liked to see more characters from the older games. If I do get a Switch, I will wait for a price drop.

In terms of game play, I do have to give the edge to FFV. That version of the Job System is one of my favorites in the series. But FFVI has the goods for story and characters, IMO

Anyway! In terms of content, I have to go with manga over anime, but, y'know, in terms of affordability, a few dollars a month for streaming unlimited anime will always trump almost $10 U.S. for one volume of manga. I'll invest in manga where I know the source is going to be a lot better, but, for the most part, I have to stick to anime. Money is scarce, and my JRPG habit gets top priority when it comes to hobbies.

I also like to read. Quite a bit, when I can. But free time is almost as scarce as money, so I never get to read as much as I would like. Too many things competing for the same blocks of time.
