The best party in the game is almost undeniably Rex/Tora/Zeke. For certain reasons, you'll have absolutely no need for a dedicated healer in your party past the late game, which leaves you free to run the monstrously broken Tora (assuming you Tiger Tiger him up) and Zeke, who also shits out some incredible damage numbers as an attacker.

It's a lengthy rhythm game segment where missing one note means you instantly die. Also the only visible indicator of when to press the button is the boss's attack animations. Also the camera spins all over the fucking place to throw you off. Also you get no indicators at all for some notes, and the very last one is out of rhythm, invisible and almost inaudible... and comes after the final dialogue of the game starts.

I'm still of the opinion that it's a 10/10 remake. Easily an improvement on the original in pretty much every way. People like to say Tim Curry was good as Pennywise - he wasn't. He was hilarious, yes, but that's not what Pennywise is supposed to be about.

At a middling New Year party atm, boring enough that I'm posting on B8 between Jackbox rounds.

In an attempt to liven things up, the host and some older guests stepped out to smoke some weed and started coughing incessantly and sharing stories about the highest they've ever been.

Now I've never partaken myself, but I have nothing against folks who do. I was surrounded by folks who smoked in college and wasn't bothered a bit. That's just the thing though, that was in college. Most of my friends seem to have grown out of it and it was a bit weird to see all these older folks breaking it out after years of not seeing it.

What say you, B8? Is smoking weed something you should grow out of, or is there nothing wrong with keeping it up into the middle ages?

Anybody happen to know where the Ruined Chapel of Danafas is? I know it's somewhere in Temperantia's Central Plain, but I can't find it (it has some frog enemy I need for an affinity chart slot).

Had to head there myself just a bit ago - it's in the upper left of the Central Plain.

Yowza, I'm definitely on the other side of this consensus. 5 is a painfully mediocre game IMO, but 6 is an absolute blast. If you're looking for something that keeps true to the horror aspects of the series, you're in for a disappointment - but if you're willing to accept the game for what it is, it's a hilariously fun action game, especially with a co-op partner. Nearing the end game right now, and I'd say the game at its heart is better than Xenoblade Chronicles. That said, the utter head-scratcher that is the decision to make blades obtained via gacha hurts the game immensely. The blade system itself is REALLY cool, but who gets what blade - or if you even get good ones at all - is completely random.

That by itself wouldn't be too terrible, but the item to get a blade off of one character and on to another is absurdly rare. Like, three in the entire main game rare. (Plus 5 extremely late game and "farmable" through a nightmarishly tedious process post-game.)

I feel like they were going for a "no two players will have the same experience" type of thing with your party makeup being different on any given playthrough... but it doesn't really work because each character has a role that they clearly excel at, and pulling a tank blade on your healer for example with extremely finite chances to fix it just ends up being frustrating rather than a cool experience.

Even with that massive problem, I still feel like I'd be more likely to replay this than the first game, so maybe that gives you an idea of how good the "on" parts of this game are.

I would honestly consider getting that triple pack if it came with a season pass for all the dlc you know they're going to milk these games with. Without that, though, I'd basically just be spending a ton of money before being asked to spend a ton more. Probably going to wait for a sale on these.

The increasingly huge overlap of PC and consoles (or lack of exclusives compared to the past, if you'd rather,) makes consoles feel less impressive. That said, gaming in general is the best it's been in forever. 2017 especially has an argument for being the best year ever, and nearly all of those games are available on consoles.

Since they're out on the same day trying to find the balance between this and Dragon Ball fighter Z is going to be tough but I know it is eventually going to just be Dragon Ball because that's what all my friends are going to play.

I'm saved from this since MHW is coming out some time later on PC. I'd be a bit upset if I didn't have FighterZ to keep me busy!

I first went for the Greatsword just because THE CLASSIC and wanting to be Guts. Had a lot of fun but I definitely need to learn the monsters before I can actually be good with it.

Tried Switch Axe and holy shit I love that weapon. Finished the final hunt in the beta by mounting and doing an explosive finish right into its face, felt so damn good.

Was a little sad to see this is the only thread on the board. Here I was hoping this game would really catch on with the board but going by this it seems not too many people care about the beta, at least. :(

I had a good sit down with it last night and had an absolute blast. I've played just a smidge of MH in the past but this is going to be my first proper foray and it seems like an incredible game to do it in. The diversity in movesets and fighting styles is really stunning and more importantly, all the weapons just feel flat out incredible to use.

Fitzgerald's Chie is fine but she very much feels like a voice actor voicing an anime girl. Chie's original dub voice felt like something different and that's why I like it more.

On that note, Catherine's original dub cast was absolutely stunning. I can't imagine the game being better for any possible replacement. (Then again, Matt Mercer could probably sneak in for Troy Baker and it'd be almost impossible to notice.)

This all seems fascinating but everything about it beyond the basic concepts seem completely alien to me. Feel like I should at least try to figure some of it out considering some bizarre explosion like folks are hoping for here is probably my best chance of affording a down payment in Orange County any time in the next 7 years. That stuff is reading a bit deeper into the story than I think the writers intended but it's plausible. Now I just wish they would take this concept further and have gray jedi in 9.

I definitely think all of this is on purpose. You can see the focus on balance in other places, like the only person who remotely comes out ahead in the movie being the codebreaker, who finds his own balance by playing both sides.

The old movies would have either had him come to a heroic rescue after selling Finn/Rose out or they would have shown him getting some kind of retribution for being an opportunistic asshole. Neither happened here - he was called out by the good guys, acknowledges they might be right but they also might not be, then he takes his leave with his money. A fucking Star Wars movie executing a true neutral character that well is probably the last thing I expected to see going in to this.

it's been too long since I enjoyed talking about a movie this much.

This is the big thing for me, too. When I walked out of the theater I honestly didn't know what the fuck to think, but I was pretty sure I wasn't overly hot on the film.

The more I wanted to talk about its shortcomings, though, the more I found myself highlighting what worked really well. And in talking with folks pretty much every day since I saw it I've found I really, REALLY like what this movie did well and it's shortcomings might not be as damning as I felt like they were. Very much looking forward to my second watch now.

I've really enjoyed reading these threads, even if I've only posted in them a couple of times. Honestly the more debate I read and the more I analyze the movie, the more I find myself liking it. I'm definitely going to see it a second time very soon and see where all of my thoughts land.

For how good the discussion has been here, I've heard rumblings that other parts of the internet are just spewing hate pretty much nonstop. Is it really as bad as all that? I don't tend to poke my head in places that get that toxic. >_>

Yeah Luke pulled the single biggest Force feat we've ever seen in canon by a mile. Afterwards he either

A. Died from overexerting himself

B. Became one with the Force since he's finished everything he needed to do in his (physical) life.

In either case, between not giving Rey her final lesson and his final words to Kylo being "see you around, kid," he's 100% coming back as a ghost in the next episode.

Pulled Kora on 5th and Overdrived her over to Nia, no regrets on that decision, what a great fit. Finally went back and got Sheba for 5th, another decision I'm very happy with. Their set up is only missing a final attack blade now!
