well they're both character assassinations

What about Kiritsugu as a heroic spirit do you think would be substantially different from Archer as he currently exists?

Archer became that way after death. Shiro actually died as a hero and Archer became embittered and Kiritsugu-esque in his afterlife. There's a notable distinction. Shiro could've been considered a hero before death. Kiritsugu, not so much, despite what the series wants me to believe (although at least Kiritsugu himself recognizes he's no hero).

On Fate/Stay night UBW, DAMMIT, TO THINK I ALL BUT DISMISSED MY "CRAZY THEORY PARAGRAPH" OUT OF HAND WHEN I LITERALLY MENTIONED ARCHER BEING SHIRO AS ONE OF THE POTENTIALITIES!

I want you to know, I've been dying of laughter ever since you first brought up the theory he was Kiritsugu.

Also Shiro > nobody, though that's probably more because of the Fate route than anything in UBW.

honestly if Kiritsugu was elevated to heroic spirit status I'd have probably had to bail on this series

although there are evil ones too so I guess they could have made it work

It's still a top 5 case despite its semi-rough finish. It is one of the weaker epic case finishes (probably only ahead of E1-5 and 4-4), but man, 5-5 has so many good individual pieces that I love it a lot anyway.

also I've actually been skimming through 5-5 myself on YouTube since there's been so much talk about it from two different users who somehow were playing it at nearly the same time over 4 years after the game came out

That Ponco cross-examination is super good. It's one of the most unique ones in the series.

Yeah, the twist of who the Phantom is was the most impressive part of that sequence because I was like you and hadn't given it much thought until they force you to pick, and you realize it can't be anybody else. Reminded me a lot of a similar moment in Persona 4. The rest of it could've been done better, I guess, but like I said earlier, his Mood Matrix was A+ (as was Blackquill's earlier in the trial).

Also, I think the Phantom gets about as much time as AAI2's Mastermind does, although he's not as good, so I don't think it's an issue of time.

I finished chapters 4 and 5 of Professor Layton and the Unwound Future last night. They were both pretty short, but they were mostly an interlude to set the stage for the next act. Layton travels back to the present to gather some information on the explosion that supposedly killed Claire, although as usual, he keeps everything close to the vest and doesn't tell us anything he's discovered. He talks to Chelmey about the case and tells him he thinks the missing prime minister has gone into the future, although I'm not sure he actually believes this whole thing is time travel because he occasionally exhibits skepticism at the concept.

The good news is that Flora is back, although Layton and Luke try to ditch her straight away. She, Chelmey, and Barton all trail them back to the clock shop and now they're all in the future! I understand Layton's concern for Flora's safety, but it's good to have her back! Just don't replace her with a body double this time!

It still remains weird to me that AAI2 has some of the BETTER voice work in the series, not worse

I mean, the AAI2 fan translation team is just as qualified to do voice work as the OT staff, so it's not that surprising that they could put out something of similar quality. Ray's is the only one I really like though. The rest are mostly fine.

Well, none of the original voice clips are done by professional VAs. They were just done by the staff, so that would probably explain the disparity for Edgeworth since I doubt they were recorded at the same time. I think Ben Judd (the guy who does Phoenix) said it took him literally dozens of takes just to get three usable clips.

also Calisto Yew will always have the worst OBJECTION

Anyway, the anime I decided on was The Count of Monte Cristo: Gankutsuou! Do you guys remember that Romeo & Juliet movie with Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes (it was Claire Danes, right?) where the story and the dialogue was all the same but it was set in the modern day, and it was critically panned? Well, this is sort of like that...except it's also set on the moon with a very psychedelic and eccentric art style. I don't even know how to describe what they're doing with everyone's hair and clothes here. I think I like it though! The plot starts during the middle of the novel, so they've basically skipped all of Edmond Dantes' backstory and how he became the Count of Monte Cristo.

Also, it might have the most subdued OP I've ever seen, coupled with an ED that would fit right in with Persona 5 (it's literally entitled "You'll Never See Me Coming," which is an awesome title for a song considering the plot of the story).

Nah, they never state in F/Z that a heroic spirit can be from the future. It's just a natural assumption you'd make that they can only be from the past until you find out who Archer is.

It's a really cool twist though.

Well, I know there were issues that the Paragon/Renegade system created when it came to flexibility in decision-making, but I think I still preferred it over what Andromeda did.

Also, Shepard is still kinda moldable in 3. Just not to the same extent as 1 and 2, obviously.

In Fate....stay night, Saber and Shiro continue to butt heads over him coming home late, not asking for her help when he needs it, and not taking the fight to other Masters and Servants, to the point that she eventually sneaks out while he's sleeping to attack Ryudo Temple, where Assassin is waiting.

Also, everyone wants to walk Shiro to school, which hurts Sakura's feelings at first, but thankfully he's able to get everything sorted out, so that's a big relief. Rin even tries to run Sakura off again later on, but she stubbornly refuses to give in and charges in to make dinner anyway. Heck yeah, fight for your screentime! Don't let your sister of all people take it away from you! Even when she finds out Rin's going to be staying with Shiro, Sakura tells him she's not worried and she has complete faith in him. At the very least, she probably doesn't have to worry about Rin since we're not on the UBW route this time...! I guess her primary rival in love this time will be Saber, because who else is there? Well, I guess there's crazy teacher lady, but I doubt it. Plus, Shiro and Saber keep bickering like an old married couple all the time here.

I'm probably in the same general league as Jeff Zero when it comes to Star Wars fandom, but I really liked it.

I'm also generally pliable and easy to please. Even when it comes to stuff I don't like (and there are things about TLJ I don't like), I just accept them and move on rather than getting stuck on why they're bad or trying to head-canon them out of existence. I prefer to focus on what I like more than what I don't like, so I guess I'm more tolerant of things that are technically "flawed" but have a lot of good things going for them (like my favorite game FFVIII, for instance).

Eh, I dunno. Like, all of Edgeworth's original sound clips EXCEPT his Objection are kinda bad. They don't even all sound like they're from the same person. The OT tries to be a lot more over the top with the sound clips (like Payne's OBJEKSHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN or Alba's HUBJECTION), so maybe people like that better than just them yelling the word at a high volume.

Junctioning's a decent idea but it needed to be tied to simply to what spell you place there, not "do you have 1 or 100".
