It wasn't for real. I came into the topic deciding to vote for whatever the oldest option was. Even if it was like 90+.
In reality is depends on the situation and culture. Like if you live in a multi-generational house then it might be expected for you to never move out and the place becomes yours at some point with your parents living with you.

It was mostly Trump, TBH. Negotiations broke down in the senate due to poor leadership from the white house. Without knowing what Trump would actually be okay with and not be okay with, the Senate leadership was less able and willing to negotiate with the Democrats. The government shutting down due to not having an agreement would look less bad for the Republicans than the government shutting down because Trump refused whatever they came up with.
