The honest/cynical answer is "They want this conversation to go away."

Pattern seems to be:
1. Shooting
2. Left wing howls GUN CONTROL NOW
3. Right wing distracts by pointing to any and everything other than gun control that might plausibly have made a difference
4. Trump sends a mean tweet and everyone forgets and moves on

I think deep down, at their core, most people on the right agree with me. This is just the cost you have to pay to live in a free society. But saying so is political suicide, so they deflect until the heat dies down.

Everyone's all "there were warning signs!" but most of the warning signs were things that were perfectly legal, and things that apply to tons of people who don't carry out mass shootings.
