None of the button inputs are as bad as the fighting game one, trust me!

Anyway, I've taken quite a considerable detour. Instead of winding up in Kakariko Village, I'm in Hateno Village. I've met Bolson, who has shown me his...dance skills, and now I am on a quest to become Link Chmovski: Home Owner!

Also, I've been making a lot of elixirs and stuff, but I'm not really sure if I'll remember to use them at the appropriate times. Oh well, at least it doesn't seem like there's a limit on the amount of food you can hold, or at the very least, it's way more than the amount of equipment you can hold.

I also caught my first horses. I named them Phoenix, Edgeworth, and Apollo.

Not sure how much I'll actually use them though, especially with all this breaking them in business.

Yeah, I actually like the fact that the shrines are small and short, which means you can have a bunch of them which require different tricks and gimmicks to beat.

Just finished THE WATER GUIDES YOU, which was another really cool one. I like that they're slowly becoming more complex. Feels like the time puzzles in Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time.

FFVI and FFVII are definitely the "transition games" for the series, but that's mostly in terms of style, tone, and emphasis on story over gameplay. The drastic shift in the gameplay itself doesn't really occur until after FFX.

also the FFVIII battle system felt pretty different to me, since I was constantly summoning GFs (and thought combat was pretty boring because of it), but I later learned that the FFVIII pros don't do it that way -- junction properly and your attacks are much more efficient than summoning. so I am chalking that one up to me being bad at the game rather than a flaw with the game.

Yeah, drawing tons of spells and spamming GFs are for rookies.

Playing cards, refining everything, and breaking the system as soon as possible is the way to go.

Eh, I don't think it was even that experimental or radical. It forces you to handle some things differently than other games in the series, but eh, every game has stuff like that. It didn't start getting really different until after FFX.

The Junction system is the only thing that really makes FFVIII "non-traditional." It's a straightforward JRPG in pretty much every other way.

I just couldn't imagine being a fan of such a perpetually terrible team

I mean the Cowboys were terrible for like a 15 year stretch but at least I had memories of the three Super Bowls as a kid so it wasn't all bad

Fortune one of the most helpful Confidants in the game

Perhaps the one in P5 that improves the most from the beginning to the end because it starts off so poorly.

Well, at least the Titans won this weekend. Yikes, Cowboys got utterly destroyed by the Broncos. Dunno what happened there. I guess the Titans are technically in 1st place in the AFC South since the tiebreakers would go Titans > Jags > Texans.

Oh hey, the next SNAFU book comes out on Tuesday. Didn't realize it was so soon, but I just got a notification from Amazon that my order shipped! Nice.

I found the next big tower thing, so now I have a map of the entire region, so that's good. Found the next shrine, but apparently I'm not supposed to step on the flowers, so this should be...something. I keep attacking goblin settlements, too. I dunno if there's some reward for getting all the chests you get for conquering them or whatever, but hey, I'm doing it.

All right, found the fourth shrine and got the bombs. Infinite supply of bombs seems extremely handy! The old man meets me at the ruins of the Temple of Time and reveals that he's actually the last king of Hyrule, and he explains the story of what happened 100 years ago. Hyrule uncovered a bunch of Gears, Ganon possessed the Gears, Zelda is using all of her power to hold him at bay, Link had to be put in hibernation for 100 years because I assume he was practically dead since the place they put him is called the Shrine of Resurrection. Now we have to save Zelda and stop CALAMITY GANON before it's too late. Next stop is Kakariko Village.

But before that, I decided to head back to the old man's cabin. Apparently, if you don't cook the meal for him, the Warm Doublet just shows up in a treasure chest for you to take, so that's handy for me, I suppose! I found the cooking pot and finally used it. I thought it was something you could pick up and take with you, so I guess that was my mistake. Once I held a bunch of items in my hands, it gave me the option to cook, so that's good! I also lucked out and created a couple of recipes. I assume it's possible to mix stuff together and create something inedible, but I might as well mess around with it for a bit and see what happens.

Shadow has two top 25 finishes, but every other finish except one has been in the bottom half. Somehow, he's never been booted though. He has the worst STATS of any character who has never been booted except for Firion, who just joined this year and only has four appearances. It's an impressive achievement in its own way. Since his numbers are thoroughly mediocre already, this performance doesn't hurt him that much. Shadow drops a bit from 39.56% to 39.14%, only losing one spot to Cid Highwind to land at 76th place.

His New Era numbers are even worse, to the point that Shadow actually went up there! He rises slightly from 31.33% to 31.44%, breaking a tie with Kadaj for 85th place.

I have several spicy peppers

but again I don't know how you're supposed to cook

the only thing that the game gives me the option to do if I stand in front of a fire is to pass time unless I'm missing something

I even held stuff in my hand once and accidentally set myself on fire trying to do something but that obviously didn't work
