DS3 seems to be one of the better optimized games in recent years. Just about every other AAA game gets run on low settings if I want it to run at a decent framerate. For example AC origins, battlefield 1, overwatch, pubg, far cry 4 and nioh all suffer from heavy fps drops, some even on lowest settings.

DS3 was the game that "forced" me to upgrade my video card. I had Doom 2016 and DS3 at the same time. DS3 was almost unplayable, but Doom 2016 ran fantastically.

shoveling snow is hard on the back, but at least you can sort of do it quickly

mowing the lawn makes a ton of noise, you have a mechanical device to maintain, it's sort of messy, it's a way larger area, you have to clear the yard, it's not always easy to get every nook and cranny, maybe you have to also do some weed-eating, etc.

I realized a long time ago that the people that you meet in real life you have nothing in common with, and talking to them just doesn't work, even somewhere like Facebook. A message board, though, we all come here with relatively similar interests, which gives us a default way to relate to each other (even though two gamers liking the same games in the same ways is actually pretty rare). Also, the pacing of message board discussion is a lot easier for me to cope with. Even chat is too fast.

Endless Space 2 is the best 4x game I've played in a while

they sure go out of their way *not* to say that it's ok to use the wrong term. note that all of the stuff in the "code" is what the "human rights tribunals" enforce.

Kana, it sounds like you *could* file a complaint if someone regularly mislabels you.

Saying that a law disallowing discrimination against people based on gender expression will lead to people being jailed for refusing to use pronouns is a textbook example of th slippery slope fallacy.

it's not slippery slope, it's badly written law. slippery slope is like, "if we allow iffy thing X, then it's only a matter of time before we're allowing obviously-horrible thing Y!". this is nothing like that.

the law (ambiguous as it is) can be interpreted in such a way that saying "she" to someone you didn't know wanted to be called "he" is literally illegal. whether anyone will ultimately be charged or not is beside the point. the fact that a law like this is allowed to exist is an embarrassment.

Please cite an official government link of our Criminal Code that mandates use of specific pronouns.

my understanding of this issue is:

Bill C-16 "adds 'gender identity or expression' to the list of prohibited grounds of discrimination in the Canadian Human Rights Act"

"gender identity" and "gender expression" are poorly defined terms. the ontario human rights policies have said that refusing to use someone's pronouns can be considered gender-based harassment and that it is "likely" discrimination. not knowing or not intending to harass is still harassment.

ontario has *human rights tribunals* which is already ridiculous by itself. they enforce ontario human rights policies, and you can hypothetically legally find yourself in front of a tribunal, and be found guilty of a hate crime, for not using someone's pronouns, even inadvertently.

TopicGames where the Villain causes the finale instead of the Player/Hero?
Sahuagin
02/01/18 9:24:21 PM

most of the time, the villain is not an active entity in the world, and can't cause *anything* to happen. it's up the player to push things forward.

some exceptions could be:

if I recall, in mass effect 2, the end part of the game starts when you are attacked "randomly" by the bad guys. there is something the player does to allow that to be able to happen, but it's not an obvious thing without looking it up. and until the attack actually happens, you're not in the end game yet. there is still another "point of no return" that the player has to actively and knowingly access, though.

in the game Lords of Magic, the bad guy wanders the map for the whole game, and can attack you at any time. if you beat him you win. often you will amass an army and attack his lands directly, but sometimes you will just win if he comes across your armies and attacks, and you manage to win.

you could say that there is 1 medium dog. then there's 6 large dogs, 1 medium dog, and 42 small dogs. but doing it that way, with some unknown number of neither-small-nor-large dogs, gives you many solutions.

probably it's supposed to be 48 instead of 49, which would seem a more likely number to use with 36.

The isolation IS the exception.

I don't see how. if you have enough extra activities to make up for the experience of entire years of school, then that arguably isn't even "home schooling" anymore, it's just some weird form of private schooling.

to be clear, I wasn't isolated to the point of having no human contact whatsoever. I had a few neighbourhood friends. it's not the same, not even close. again, the moment I was in a real class again, I knew the difference. I grew emotionally/socially as much or more in that year than in the past 7. though I also had to painfully discover my now permanent handicaps.

Zeus posted...
Having gone through the public education system, I can assure that you missed far less than you think. Otherwise, *everybody* has at least some regrets or remorse about the way they grew up.

well I'm the one who's actually missing something; as the saying goes you don't know what you have till it's gone.

weren't you the one who posted about genie? you can't really fix things that happen during formative years. it defines you. you can learn to cope with it and work around it, but your brain is hardwired with the deficiency.

additionally, I'm the oldest of three. I actually have it the best, since I was isolated at a later age. my siblings are much worse off, proportionate to their age and how young they were when it started.
