To peel boiled eggs easily, just crack the whole shell. It will peel off easily.
But don't let it sit and cool down after boiling, or the inner membrane is going to stick to the egg, and cause peeling disaster.

You do not have to throw out a stinky sponge, simply microwave it (wet, never microwave a dry sponge) for ~20 seconds and you will kill all the stink causing bacteria. Letting it sit in boiling water will achieve the same result.

I have dumped it in alcohol. But using soaps that say "Antibacterial" and are orange reduces the stink.

What I think happened:
The mom was crazy, because the kid is unbearable. It was her the whole time. The monster is just her anger and frustration. At the end, when she goes to "feed the Babadook" dirt and worms, she probably is just going there to the basement to throw a tantrum, go berserk and scream all she wants, finishing with kicking the stupid dirt bowl into the corner. Then, when she calms down, she goes up to the kid. He asks "How was it?", and she replies "It wasn't so bad today." So, she just found a way to vent off, and be calmer when around the kid.
